The glass snake is a legless lizard found in the southern United States. If an enemy grabs its tail, the snake will wiggle off, leaving the tip in the enemy's mouth. It is called the glass snake because it can break off the tip of the tail. A few days later the snake will have a new tip.

(Great... Go out looking for 'a piece of tail' and that's exactly what you get!!!)

Celluloid was the first plastic; it was used to make billiard balls.

(But it never caught on as a 'catch-phrase' for courage... I mean, when was the last time you heard of someone having celluloid ones!!)
