BELIEFS

CAI Believes in Fulfilling the Great Commission

We believe that God passionately desires lost people to know Him and to enter into a relationship with Him. Once saved, God wants people to grow in their faith and seek to advance the Kingdom. Jesus commissioned His disciples in Matthew 28, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you." We believe church planting is vital because the Church is God's primary agent to fulfill the Great Commission. [^ top]

We Believe in Evangelizing and Making Disciples

Evangelism and discipleship are the bottom line of CAI's ministry. If lost people are not placing their hope and faith in Christ and becoming part of His Church, our existence as a ministry is futile. We recognize that today's secular and urban context demands a greater emphasis on relationship-building and seeker-sensitive ministry. Most Christians today would point to the influence of a friend or relative as a decisive factor in their conversions. CAI encourages an approach to evangelism that includes networking, friendship-building events, ministering to felt needs, and story-telling. Our goal in discipleship is not just information but transformation. The primary agent of discipleship is the Holy Spirit, and the Bible is our authoritative spiritual guide. The path of discipleship includes developing intimacy with Jesus Christ as Lord, prayer, application of God's Word, dependence upon the Holy Spirit's power, participation in a body of believers, use of spiritual gifts to build up others, and sharing our faith with others. We Believe in Church Planting

The Church is God's instrument to call people to discipleship, which in turn leads people to incorporation into the Church. CAI believes that the purpose of the local church is to make more and better disciples. Discipleship is not complete unless people become active, equipped, and responsible members of a local church. The mission of the Church is not complete until there is a vital, witnessing, reproducing body of believers in every people group in the world. [^ top]

We Believe in Church Renewal

We see a great need for church renewal in Europe, where secularism has had such a prevailing influence for generations. The church exists primarily as an organism and secondarily as an organization. Therefore, church renewal is both structural and spiritual. Structural renewal begins with clarity of purpose, so that the programs of a church are determined by its purposes, rather than the purposes being dictated by programs. It also involves mobilizing the laity, reversing the common pattern of "the pastor does the ministry." The Holy Spirit brings spiritual renewal. This renewal is brought on by the prayers of the Church and by God Himself breaking into the lives of unchurched people. Spiritual renewal is also facilitated by structural renewal as people begin to experience authentic community in small groups, to be empowered in leadership, to be released and encouraged in the use of their giftedness, to receive relevant Biblical teaching, to share their faith and to see God working in the lives of unbelievers. We Believe in Church Growth

CAI assumes that God wants His church to grow. He wants lost people found, saved, and incorporated as responsible members of His Church. Our desire is for the expansion of the Kingdom of God whereby local churches are established that are culturally relevant and firmly rooted in Christ. [^ top] We Believe in Teams and Teamwork CAI holds the deep conviction that Christians minister most effectively in teams. Each Christian has been uniquely gifted by the Holy Spirit and has a special contribution to make. The variety of gifts are given to benefit the whole team, linking people in such a way that they cannot function effectively without one another. CAI staff as a whole, and our teams, seek to model the kind of loving, authentic community that we hope to see develop in the churches we plant. Therefore, we place a high value on relationships, development of trust, and working together as a staff and leadership teams. We work diligently to place staff in healthy team settings, where the gifts, personalities and passions of each member are valued. Because we build teams around people, instead of building people for teams, there is no such thing as a "typical" team in CAI. [^ top]
