"Its the only way to be certain. Forebode cannot see the actual future, but it is never inaccurate with the past!"
Kate Dennison

Waking from a horrible dream where members of the crucible enter the Underworld and witness the death of Kate Dennison before towering gigantic figuers, Andrew Everard rushed to her office to stop her from considering the actions that lead to that future. In another part of the city, Shep Remmington encounters the infamous Vincent Fiorello during a rescue mission attempt with Chet Mason at his side. The two spooks hoped to assist Michelle Quietly and Michael's escape from their fetch surrounded haunt. When the Spectre Vincent actually assists them and takes the Frighteners down, Shep and Mason consider the possibility that not all Spectres may be following a hive mind. They escape just before the Magnificent Mister Fox uses its powers to bewitch them all.

With another discussion set with Mister Jigsaw, the crucible discover that the Spectres are akin to a disease in more ways than one. As their discussions range to the manner of how the Spectres have been infiltrating the lands of the living, the crucible begin to see the bigger forces at work in the battle between the Living, the Spectres and their own foes. Even the looming strange Grand Mother is made possibly more understandable in the discussions.
