Fayola Herrod, 1st National Board of Trustees President
GREETINGS FROM MALIKA KAMBE UMFAZI SORORITY INC.
Hotep, Queens, Members of KA, family and friends
of Malika Kambe Umfazi Sorority Inc.
On behalf of the National Board of Trustees and affiliate chapters, I am honored to welcome you to our Sororitys Homepage. It was all made possible by two Sisters initiative and dedication towards the sisterhood that is MKU. We are truly blessed and their hard work
has paid off as evidenced by this wonderful website. This is not
the first and it certainly will not be the last.
This organization is founded on the principles of Mahatma: high mindedness and selflessness, Kinship: the relationship that exists from the intersections of ethnicity and culture close bonds, and Utilitarianism: Stressing usefulness above and beyond superficiality
belief in utility that does the most good for the greatest number of people.
As an Afrikan and Latina sorority we embody these ideals as opposed to
just being committed to them.
The Afrikan Diaspora, born out of Akebulan,
spans the Caribbean and the Americas. With many differences that
exist between and among us there are even greater similarities. MKU
recognizes these shared knowledges of Afrikan and Latina peoples in a
profound way. We seek to understand and enhance our personal lives
as women and sisters as well as the lives of our familial communities.
We value ourselves and the Her(His)tories of our ancestors. We want
our actions to reflect the wisdom obtained from our elders, youth and the
Creator, in bringing about a reclamation of Afrikas stolen legacy and
fostering a knowledge of the worth and regality of women.
This beautiful Sisterhood is about Service, creating routes to better Mental and Physical Health, setting Goals and
bringing them to fruition, in addition to active and productive Leadership.
Academic, Social and Cultural Growth is always promoted through our programs,
community service and our relationships with each other as women of Malika
Kambe Umfazi Sorority Inc.
We are eternally indebted to our Founding Mothers for creating the foundation that is continually being built upon with the Love, Courage and Spiritual strength of sisters at all times. With their vision and mutual interests MKU is the inspiration and powerful flame
it is today.
Enjoy your passage through these pages.
We thank you for taking the time in seeking to know who we are as a sisterhood.
