James and Mabel Carmichael's Third Child:
George Sleggs Carmichael

George Sleggs Carmichael was born on August 16, 1916, the third child of James and Mabel Carmichael. As a youth, George loved to escape from the city and visit his Grandfather Sleggs in the country, where they enjoyed hunting and fishing together. George inherited his grandfather's allergy to bees, but often refused to wear his bracelet announcing this fact.

His first marriage was in March 1942 to Leota Isabelle Becker, who people affectionately called "Becky", and had 5 children: Georgia, Paula, Joanne, Susan and Mary (who died at age 2-1/2 from hepatitis). Leota died young, in 1970 and George remarried in 1981 to Ann Kirk. He spent his retirement from Foster Wheeler Corp. as the owner and proprietor of Mouse Trap Antiques in North Cohocton, NY.

George was a Veteran of the WWII Army Air Corp, and was a member of Dansville Fish and Game and Dansville Moose. He died on St. Patrick's Day in March, 1992.

His daughter Georgia Feasel writes: "Dad had the most beautiful blue eyes and a dry sense of humor. He was also a bit of a philosopher and three of his favorite sayings were: "The secret to life is balance". "Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent". "He's a small frog in a small puddle". He read voraciously on almost every topic, fiction and non-fiction. Granny often caught him with a flashlight reading under the covers. And when he was retired and running the Mouse Trap, he'd go to bed after the 11:00 p.m. news, get up in the middle of the night for several hours, read, and then go back to bed until around 7:00 a.m. I know because I stayed with him occasionally to help when he expected a heavy weekend at the shop and Ann was out of town."
