| It feels good to be upstairs in the air conditioner. For some reason, the air conditioner in the lab downstairs wasnt on. Shouldnt be much of a suprise to me, though, becuase somehow the people here seem to have a tolerance to heat that cant be anything less than magical. Its insane. People walk around here in long-sleeve shirts, suits, pants, sweatsuits, you name it. And you should see the clothes they put on their babies. It kills me sometimes. I just think, "poor baby- sitting on the bus in all this heat and wearing a thick, cotton one-sie." But, I guess thats how they get used to the heat- start tolerating it from when they are children. Still, it just seems like needless suffering to me. Anyhow, other than beating the heat, Im just sitting back basking in the fact that I am pretty much done with my classes. Actually, I shouldnt bask too much, since I still have some reading to do for Phonetics and Literature. But after that, classes are pretty much through. Monday is the last day of classes and I found out today that I made a 98 on my final presentation for Communications, and for the class grade I got a 91! I was so happy! I was a little worried about that class because waaaay back during the first parcial of the year, I didnt turn in an assignment and so I got a zero for it. You know how a zero can really hurt your grade. Even so, the final counted for so much and I tried to make As on everything else, and in the end, was able to make up for that missing assignment. So, that was great news. Most of my other finals should be pretty easy. I am hoping. Well see. So, today I went to Plaza Cuernavaca, the mall here, to go see about some chicken mcnuggets from McDonalds. I also had an extreme craving for cake. I had been wanting some since last night, and couldnt find any when I went to the movies. The chicken mcnuggets were really really good, but they cost too much, I beleive. The price is about 2.25 for 6 piece and 2.70 for a nine piece! Is that not a little on the expensive side! So I went ahead and got the combo, and then hopped on over to this little bakery set-up in the food court and got s piece of cake. I believe it was mocha flavor. It was good. So I am happy now, and about $5 in the hole for nuggets and cake. Gotta love it. No, actually, prices for food in general here is great. I was just telling Delphine yesterday how I was going to miss the cheap food here. They have something here called "comida corrida," which means food on the run, or something like that. Anyhow, you usually pay $2 or $3 USD and get soup or pasta, bread, a drink, desert, and then you get to choose from a main meal. There are usually 5 options. It is so cool! And these places are everywhere- on every corner. Now, to get that much food for so little should be a crime! But it isnt! I almost forgot- it seems like so long ago but yesterday Delphine made the trek with me to Popotlan again to try to see the curandera lady. Whaddaya know, she wasnt home! It takes 6-7 hours to make that trip and she wasnt there. She had just left to go to another town for an overnight trip to help cure some people there. But, this time, her husband told me the days that she is in and fortunately, she will be home on Sunday at 10 a.m. So I will make my last venture then. I really want to see her. The thought of doing this trip all over again, for the third time, makes me tired, but I have high hopes for Sunday! |
