next day's entry
Hi! I dont recall the last time I wrote, but it feels like forever! Well, here I am finally, and it is the first of May. Where did the time go? I am telling you, it flies. I have a recommendation for anyone who is a college student and wants the time to go fast. Take one class on Tuesdays and no classes on Wednesdays. Somehow, that makes the time go sooo fast, I guess because you have classes on Monday, but then Tuesday becomes like another Friday because there are no classes on Wednesday. Then, Wednesday is like a Saturday and you just enjoy yourself. Next thing you know, its Thursday and you are busy with classes, then Friday comes around and its the weekend again! Hey, works, for me.
So, a lot of just random things have been going on- nothing too major. Becky left this morning to go home to her graduation. I will miss her this next week and a half, but when she returns, I will only have a week and a half left myselt. Oddly enough, that makes me kind of sad. I dont understand it. I am ready to go home, but sometimes it seems like I am just now getting used to a lot of things and meeting a lot of interesting people.
Yesterday, had a major cultural clash type problem. I was very angry and irritated and it would have been a terrible, terrible time to ask me
anything about Mexico. Becky and I had planned to go downtown to have lunch and take photos of downtown Cuernavaca so that she could show them to her family. Her friend, Amy, asked to come along. So, we go to the church to meet her at 3 p.m. and she was not there, but had gone home. That was okay- we waited for 15 minutes and then Amys mother came to pick us up and take us to Amys house where we would meet her and then go do whatever. So, we get there, stay a few minutes, and then head off to an auditorium nearby to see my friend, Ignacios band. They were supposed to be playing at some event at 4 p.m.. We arrive at 4:20 and the event isnt scheduled to start until about 6 p.m. Another Mexican thing- never starting on time. Anyhow, I told him we might come back, but wasnt sure if we were going to be able to. So, we then go to Plaza Cuernavaca to get some food before taking the photos. Then, Amy tells us that she needs to buy some presents for some friends, and we spend 30 minutes doing that. Now, somewhere in the scheme of all of this, it takes forever and I end up getting home at 8:30 and Becky and I NEVER got to take photos. Becky also missed her Grupo familiar that she wanted to get to and I was late for a meeting with this friend of mine on my street who wanted to play basketball. It was embarrasing because when I got there he was gone and it already seems like I am avoiding him (even though Im not- Im just busy). The bus ride from Amys house took an hour, because I had to switch in the Centro, and it seemed like the driver was driving extra slow when usually theyre speeding through the place. I was getting so annoyed. Just the fact that the whole evening took so long annoyed me. We even had left our bookbags at Amys house and that was totally unneccesary. Going back to get them wasted an extra 30 minutes. Then, I was expecting her to drive us to the Centro, after taking us to her house, which would have been really nice. I also ended up being an hour late for dinner, which I really didnt want to happen, just because I dont like Claudia and Andre waiting on me. Anyhow, the entrie day was an annoyance because this ALWAYS happens here in Mexico. It ALWAYS happens. People take their time doing everything and dont understand when you say you have a schedule. It is the most annoying aspect of this culture and I dont think I could ever get used to it. They get on my nerves, in that aspect.
The good thing, however, is that I made an awesome friend yesterday. Amy is one of the sweetest, most kind, most enjoyable people I have ever met. I guess thats what makes it so hard- the fact that you actually
like the person and couldnt ever just be mean or rude to them! I am planning on doing something with her this next week or so and really look forward to it. Of course, this time, I will be sure to keep the ENTIRE day clear and make sure I have NOTHING on my schedule!
