previous day's entry next day's entry
Tuesday, May 14, 2002   8:00 p.m.
Well, I just gave up on studying for Phonetics. How silly of me to think I was actually gonna do it! No, I was listening to music at the same time and that NEVER works. Its actually still Monday, but I figured that if I wasnt going to really study, I might as well come on to the school and do my Tuesdays entry early. Also, I am trying to hurry up and find out from my mother when Im leaving so that I can make plans accordingly. I have things to do and people I want to see before I leave, and if Im leaving on Friday then I will have to pick and choose carefully. Not to mention I will have to watch it with the budget!
So, yeah, I am here at the school. Since its exam week, the school stays open until 1 a.m. How nice! If only I didnt live forever away. Unlike some of the other students, I cant stay here late because the buses stop at 9 and I cant really walk home. I refuse to pay a taxi. So, that means I am limited on my time at the lab. I guess thats a good thing, because otherwise, I probably wouldnt get anything done.
It just finished raining a big storm. So, it seems like I will get to see some of the rainy season after all. Since two days ago it has rained during the nights pretty heavily. Usually starting around 7 and stopping around 9 or 10, off and on. From what I hear, its supposed to really rain all night, so I dont know. Anyhow, I love it! The days havent been quite as hot and after it rains, it is sooo cool. Plus, I love the sound of rain and thunderstorms. Im really liking this.
My story from last night was that I decided to try to take the bus, #14, the one that I always take to school. Well, remember how at the beginning of the year I got lost big time and I had just gotten here and was afraid Id never get home? Well, I had been planning on doing a "reflections trip" and taking it back the other direction just to see that place where I was again, and to look out the window and think about how far Ive come and also to see if I recognize any of the places where I was again. I know- corny. But still, wherever I ended up was really beautiful and it was countryside with lots of hilly lights and whatnot. Well, to make a long story short, the bus stopped and cut off in this neighborhood after about 30 minutes and said that was it. I was just sitting there like, "Are you sure? Are you sure this is it?" Im telling you, I was confused. This is the second time I have attempted my rememberance trip and apparantly, this place wherever I was, doesnt exist! Its so weird! I know I was on the "14- why would I have taken any other bus? Its the only one that comes by our house. So, Im just assuming that apparantly, wherever I was was in some time-zone type place and that I guess Ill never see it again. I was thinking that maybe now I just recognize all of the places, so it doesnt seem like the old place, but I really dont think thats it. Where I was last night and the time before doesnt look anything like the first place.
Also, as I boarded the bus to come back, a storm came up. A really big, strong, heavy storm. There was lightening, and lots of thunder and rain. It sucked. By the time I got home, 2 hours had passed and I was out about .70 cents.
So, today I was going to go to Las Grutas de Cacahuamilpa. They are these caves about an hour away that a lot of tourists go see. Theyre supposed to be some of the best cave formations in Mexico. There are cathedral high caves, underwater rivers, and beautiful formations of stalactytes and stalactmites. Well, turns out the bus only goes directly there on Sundays and holidays, but they said I could take it to the town nearby and get a ruta from there. I said "no way!". Not really, but you know. Its just that I think I am done with adventures for this trip and didnt feel like going through with it. I just decided that whenever I come back to Mexico, with Charles, hopefully, I will go see them.
Well, let me check my mail and see if my mother has changed my flight. Bye!
