previous day's entry next day's entry
Funny, Wednesdays are my days off, so why have I been here at the school all day? The only reason I have to come to school on Wednesdays is for Salsa lessons. Yes, I am taking Salsa lessons. I figured, why not? I will see how it goes. If I like it, Ill stay, if not, its free, so it wont kill anyone if I quit. A lot of people showed up for the first one today, so we were divided into two groups. Anyway...
I dropped a class yesterday. It was Introduction to Literature. I didnt want to be in it because the teacher assigned a ridiculous amount of work. It was crazy. I switched into Latinoamerican Literature and like that teacher a lot better. The only thing that I am complaining about so far, as far as my teachers are concerned, is that a lot of them emphasize and assign a lot of group work. Now, this is nice and everything, but groupwork can be so inconvenient. I mean, it seems like all I ever do is ask people, "So what time do you want to meet?" Now, Im ready to go home because it is 5:30, but I have to wait for my group which meets at 6 to do a project. I have never been a groupwork type person, and its not something that you grow into. You dont grow into groupwork projects, you only get forced into doing them and turn even more irritated. I hope this doesnt take long.
Yesterday, I went with my friend Kristin to the supermarket. Well, more like she came with me. I had been needing to buy notebooks and a disk. We took the bus to it and she really liked it. She had never been to this particular supermarket before. It is the nice one that I was talking about earlier. It is so beautiful. I know this sounds silly but it really is. Anyhow, it has a burger king in it and we ate there. It was so nice to eat Burger King. Well, actually, I more regretted it afterwards, but it was still a nice change. It definitely wont be happening often, though, because it takes a 20 minute bus ride to get there.
Speaking of buses, I know that I said I liked the bus systems here, but they really are dangerous. One of the problems is that the drivers like to take off while you are still getting into the bus, and they dont have doors in the front. It is really annoying. Some are nice and wait, but the majority are rude and dont care. I was told by our seminar teacher that people have gotten hurt on the Rutas (thats the name of the bus system, La Ruta). She said people have fallen off backwards and stuff. I can imagine! She said the best thing to do is to just hold on to the bars or to ask the driver to wait. What I have begun doing is waiting until I am on the bus to pay. I dont care if they want their money, but Im getting on the bus first. Also, they are so impatient when it comes to people getting off. They dont look back to see if everyone whos getting off is off. Yesterday, when Kristin and I were getting off of the bus, there was a crowd at the back entrance. I got off after about 3 people, then Kristin behind me. Well, the bus closed its doors while she was in the doorway and started going. She was stuck in the doorway and was screaming! It was kind of funny, especially since Kristins an overreactor anyway. Fortunately, the driver stopped and let her out. Nobody got hurt but what if he had taken off while somebody was stepping off? Someone could get a twisted ankle or run over or worse! Maybe that one bus driver has learned a lesson about waiting. If he has, that leaves about
20 thousand more bus drivers to go!
