JCPenney got two new spokespeople in home design guru Chris Madden and leading wedding planner Colin Cowie. Madden, the host of the HGTV show Interiors by Design and the author of over 15 design and lifestyle books, and Cowie, who has planned weddings for Jerry Seinfeld, Lisa Kudrow, Paula Abdul and Charlie Sheen, will serve as consultant and national spokesperson for JCPenneys Home Collection and bridal registry, respectively.
Fashion model Emme chose JCPenney as the venue to release her spring 2003 True Beauty apparel line. Host of E! Entertainment Televisions Fashion Emergency, Emme designed plus-sized sportswear, dresses and intimate apparel
that sell for an average price of $45. The line is exclusive to JCPenney for the first year.
Estee Lauder Companies Inc.which currently manufactures and sells products for Clinique, Bobbi Brown, Tommy Hilfiger and many othershas entered into an agreement with Kohls Corp. to launch BeautyBank, a line that will serve
as the sole source of cosmetics for Kohls department stores. To keep prices lowsomewhere between drug store cosmetics prices and those of higher-end department storesthe line will be sold at self-serve counters instead of the usual department store method of staffed counters. The line will be introduced in about 270 Kohls stores next fall and in all stores by fall 2005.
After his success with his Target Dorm Room line, Todd Oldham inked a deal with furniture manufacturer La-Z-Boy for a 62-piece line. The 76-year-old company is, like many others today, looking to attract attention from younger shoppers.
Oldhams sectional couches, convertible daybeds and polka dot rugs do indeed target a different audience than La-ZBoys average 50-year-old customer. Every item is under $1,000 with some pieces starting around $100. Look at it this
way, said Oldham in the Washington Post, you can buy two sofas for the price of one Prada handbag.
