Nine highly influential individuals whose identities are kept next to secret, even within Deep Cold. They are the final word in any action that the organisation sees; they dictate policy and funding, and are the top of the COntrol totem pole.
Dougray was once a prolific politician in the Pacific Northwest; he handles paperwork, arranges where bribes are to be left and what laws are to be taken advantage of. He has an ear within most other intelligence agencies, including Mossad and the NSA; known in the old world of espionage as a Spymaster, he is the head of a lot of operations, the operatives in the field his eyes and hands. He is, however, ambitious; potentially ambitious beyond even Deep Cold's deep pockets of wealth and plenty.
The latest recruit into the Deep Cold agency, Vincent finds it hard to adapt to life within the world of espionage, but catches up remarkably well. Vincent has an inquisitive and perceptive mind, and he borders on psychic ability sometimes in that he can very easily tell if someone is lying or not just by hearing their voice. He is taken in on the premise that he is overall a good agency type, and his skills with technological hardware and communications technology are second to none. He has one person left outside the agency that really matters - Chelsea, the object of his affections.
With no identity outside of his codename, Lazarus is Deep Cold's operations overseer and primary recruiter; he took the codename because of Deep Cold's manner of faking the deaths of their new operatives. He's a high ranker in the organisation, a man privy to a great deal of secrets; he's enigmatic, never letting those beneath him know everything. He's almost like a father figure, though when he becomes too close to an operative, he hands them over to someone else.
Vincent's partner in the field, Sarah is efficient, smart and capable; she has friends in all kinds of places, and never fails to go on a hunch. She was once a private investigator, who came across Deep Cold's existence; her recruitment was due to her skills. Chosen as Vincent's partner due to her experience, at first they jar, before smoothly falling into line as good friends and colleagues. She has a habit she's never managed to break of smoking menthol cigarettes, especially when she drives.
Information processing and surveillance expert, when Deep Cold needs to keep an eye on someone, they call Harriett. Skilled with multitasking and interpreting data, her operational codename is Optical. A friendly woman when not on the job, Harriett plays the mother to Lazarus' father figure, often chosen for high-profile recruiting tasks to compile personnel reports. She operates well alongside Mordecai, her caution and tendency to follow orders neatly counterbalancing his rebellious, maverick streak.
A mysterious operative that is constantly accompanied by Dacklyn Marsh. Ghost is a natural psychic; he is capable of psychometry (touching an object and seeing events of emotional significance that occured relating to it), a slight degree of prescience, and has a highly tuned sense of intuition. Ghost always wears gloves, since if he doesn't, whatever he touches gives him a burst of emotional images and sounds. He's withdrawn and quiet, but dedicated to Deep Cold's operations.
Arrested on his sixteenth birthday for seventy-four counts of cybercrime, Mordecai was only detained for a week; he was allegedly killed when the prison van transporting him to Cape Vincent in New York State was involved in a vicious car crash. His new life in Deep Cold suited him fine, as their resident cyberterrorism expert and hacker extraodinaire at the ripe old age of seventeen. Mordecai is always listening to his MP3 player, filled with heavy rock sounds, and more than once Lazarus has asked him to unplug.
A two-fisted operative with a devil-may-care attitude and a habit of shooting from the hip both verbally and physically, Dack as she likes to be known is Ghost's operational partner; where he provides the smarts and the insight, Dack provides the streetwise and the muscle. Brought up in Queens, Dack is out of place in the board room, but as soon as her feet touch sidewalk or asphalt, she is in her element.
Huge and broad, Mace - once a beat cop in Los Angeles - is the entry leader for one of Deep Cold's shock teams. He is a capable tactical thinker, and expert with most kinds of assault weaponry; his weapon of choice is the SPAS-12 combat shotgun. A man with a brusque sense of humour and a very open way with people, he clearly harbours demons in his past, things he has seen that he never wants to see again.
Previously an operative within an NSA branch specialising in aggressive intelligence, Derek is a true spook; stealthy as an assassin and athletic, he can gain entry to, steal things from, and plant bugs and surveillance technology in any situation. Tied to CYber Ops, he also operates with Spec Ops, being their hands in the field, planting remote uplinks to remotely access computers, lifting physical storage for data, and disabling security measures. Professional and somewhat detached, Derek comes across as a man that does his job because it's what he is good at; though those that become close to him find out that the real Derek is a warm man, with a sense of humour and a friendly side that he hides within himself to do the job.
Seconded to Mace in the front line attack teams, Quan Chen is a formidable soldier. Highly proficient in a great deal of weapons and tactics, Quan Chen is an awesome shot and a quick thinker. Previously an undercover Hong Kong police officer, Quan Chen is ballsy, self-confident and fast to step to the fore even if his own life is at risk; a favoured tactic of his is to smash into a room containing both hostages and those holding them, and take down the hostage takers with his twin Berettas before they can react. A risky tactic, often not even considered without flashbangs or smoke. He has compartmentalised in his mind a shard, that comprises all his violent and dark urges; he calls it Shou Hu Shen, and they can communicate via thought.
Sooz, as she likes to be called, is an aerotech engineer and pilot. Turned down for the USAF because she refused to sleep with her examiner, she was swiftly snapped up by Deep Cold for her expertise in handling jet aircraft, heavier planes and helicopters. She tends to wear big tattered leather gloves and goggles, and reinforced work pants. Sooz operates fast and smooth, a professional and a perfectionist to the last, though not without a sense of humour.
Beautiful and deadly, Michelle is a sniper without compare. Previously of Canadian HRT, she was struck off when she opened fire without clearance. Her skills hadn't gone unnoticed; Deep Cold snapped her up, providing her suicide as her fake death. She's professional, daring and capable, and often she is sent on infiltration ops in the same manner as Derek; the two have operated in unison a great many times, to excellent success.
