A Few Great Women and a Little Girl ...prettier than the Few Good Men
Wendy Yee Chestnut Hill, MA My younger sister and I have grown up with many nicknames for each other (these names and other silly things we did growing up will remain classified information!). Although we're four years apart, Wendy and I have confided in each other throughout our teenage and college years. Just this past July, I had the joy of being Wendy's Maid of Honor and I'm really glad to have her as my Honor Attendant.
Esther Chen San Francisco, CA We met back in the summer of 1993 when we were both "orphans" in DC. We had so much fun that summer that we would go to work on Mondays to recover from the weekend festivities! During these past 8 years, Esther has been my sounding board, my confidante, and someone I knew who would give me her honest thoughts tempered with a lot of sensitivity and love. In addition to all this, Esther and I vacation together each year and she can still put up with me year after year!
Betty Huang Southfield, MI I met Betty my first day at Cornell. She had walked into the room we were going to share together and thought that her new roommate was a child prodigy. She was looking at Wendy... Now older and wiser, we both know that I was the intended roommate and indeed not a child prodigy. I find it both amusing and comforting that Betty and I have experienced much of our growing up away from home together as we ate late-night snacks and had even later night talks.
Eileen Yeh San Gabriel, CA Eileen and I are only months apart in age. Even though she is Steven's younger sister, she is oftentimes his voice of reason (for which I'm really grateful!). The first day we met, we were already beaming each other IR games on our Palm/Visor (she even had to go the store to buy more AAA batteries!). More than just game buddies, I've felt truly welcomed into the Yeh family through Eileen's hospitality, openness, and her (very-relatable-to-me) independent yet caring nature. I believe that we will be able to relate even moreso about some of Steven's quirkinesses (as I discover them)! Most of all, I look forward to sharing sisterhood with Eileen.
Hannah Roller Stuttgart, Germany The very first day I met Hannah, I had created a leak in her then-infant daughter's dirty diaper. I had wanted to give "godfather Steven" a nice challenge in his first diaper-chaning experience by rubbing the diaper mess around. Months after the fact when Hannah found out that I was the cause of the soiled clothes, she laughed and I knew we would have a lot of fun together. I love Hannah for her free-wheeling spirit, her openness to embracing life, and her honest-to-goodness advice on marriage and men!
Sarah Roller Stuttgart, Germany Soon-to-be my god-daughter, Sarah was the "then-infant" daughter of Hannah who had to endure the leaky diaper I had created for Steven to change. I believe she has since forgiven me and with much excitement, I look forward to seeing how grown up she is at a very mature 20 months!
Below are the stories of five woman (and one very cute girl) who have been significant and influential to me . I've had the privilege of knowing them in various stages of life and I thank God who has provided me with their friendship and love. He does indeed reveal himself in other people and here are five of them...
