| Vincent was born about 1779 (based on census)in VA. married Frances Wright in Spartanburg Co. SC probably before 1807( based on birth of eldest recorded child). They moved to Franklin Co. Alabama where they are found on the 1840 census. They move from there to Tippah Co. MS. where they are located from 1850 forward. Vincent died in Ripley, Tippah Co. MS. At this time it is unknown by this writter when Frances died or where she is buried. Documents and records found for Vincent and Frances Tapp: Spartanburge Dist. SC. Nov. 8, 1808 Book M, pg. 93-93 Mar, 1809, Vincent Tapp (Spartanburg) to Thomas Price (same); for $212 sold (1) 100ac. on N side of S Tyger R; and (2) 57ac joining(1) on S side. Rec Jul 4, 1809 Note: You see here that Vincent sold the first land here as well as 57 acres for less then the original purchase fo the first 100 ac he purchased. Question: Why? Alexander Vernon ( Sheriff of Spartanburg Dist.) by virtue of a writ issued out of the Court of Common Pleas as the suit of Robrt Ligon against Vincent Tapp for $169.54 damages and costs, have siezed all that certain tract of land containing 173 acres more or less, in Spartanbug Dist. on the waters of Fairforrest. Bound: Abraham Gosseet(s), HenryMcDowell(N). Obadiah Wingo(S&SW). Whereon the said Vincent Tapp now lives. Exposed at public auction and purchased by John W. Tapp (Spartanbug Dist) for $1. Rec. 3 oct. 1829 It appears here that there was a court record that has not been located in regards to this incident. What exactly did Vincent do that incured such a debt? Book V, 87 pg 64-65 16 May 1832 Indenture of three part made between Vincent Tapp (Spartanburg Dist) of one part, Frances Tapp his wife of the second part and Robert Wingo Trustee of the third part. Whereas said Vincent Tapp has been unfortunate in trade and deeming it his duty to secure to his said wife Frances for her separate benefit all the proceeds of her future industry & earnings free from control of said Vincent Tapp. coventants with Robert Wingo as does agree with Frances Tapp his wife that she shall from all times henceforth during her natural life to carry on such trade & business as she shall see fit. Tapp (Spartanbug Dist) to John Murphy (same), for $138 sold a certain tract of land in said Dist, on or near Fair Forest Border: Saw Mill Road . Witness William W. May , Mathew P. Gossett. Dower relinquished by Frances Tapp 12 Jan 1832 to James Hamm J.Q. Witness oath by William W May. 24 Mar 1832 to Augustin Shands, J,P. Rec 2 July 1832 This researcher feels as thought the above documents speak for themselves in that Vincet Tapp was indead of finacial trouble but took the initiative to secure the future of his wife and children. I feel as though the John W. Tapp who purchased the land for $1 was indeed the child of Frances and Vincent. The family moved to Franklin Co. AL. and are located there in the 1840 census. Also located there is John W. Tapp and James H. Tapp. Mary Ann Tapp married Malone there and James H. Tapp records indicate his marriage there yet no records exist to verify this other than census records. Census records for this family will be updated here shortly. . They had the following children: 1. John Wright Tapp b. 1807 (middle name based on land record in Franklin Co. AL) 2. James H. Tapp b. 1815 3. Jennie b.1817 died Tippah Co.
