Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN (May 2001 – July 2001)

Served in a transition period to assist in hiring and training new staff.  Coordinated the Emily Mauzy Vogel Sophomore Leadership Development Conference, and the Second Annual Student Leaders Retreat. Managed a $50,000 budget for Student Enrichment Education Development Programs (SEED).  Worked to evaluate the effectiveness of previous programs developed through the SEED funding and helped redistribute the budget to the appropriate programs.  Designed and published a website for this area of the Office of the Dean of Students.  Performed generalist activities related to management of Student Activities and Organizations area, such as event planning and approval and advising student groups.  Served as a liaison to faculty and staff advisors to over 640 student organizations.

Served as an academic advisor for University Division (UDV) students – a program for students with undecided majors or for students with grade point averages lower than the requirement for their desired school.  Provided counseling in a number of roles such as career counseling for students currently enrolled as well as prospective students, crisis counseling, and personal counseling.  Also served as a personal, career, and academic counselor to adult learners through the Span Plan program – a program designed to advocate for the adult learner.  Coordinated and presented a study-skills workshop for residence halls.  Researched and developed a document of financial aid resources for adult students returning to school.  Member of Purdue Academic Advisor Association.  Participated in area staff meetings, committees, staff development workshops, group supervision, individual supervision, goal development, and various general office duties.

Volunteer intern counselor 15 hours a week at The Counseling Center, a not-for-profit United Way foundation.  Conducted initial assessment as well as continuing therapy for individuals and families.  Co-facilitator of pre-adolescent girls survivors of sexual molestation group.  Completed assessment reports, progress notes, and case conference reports as needed.  Participated in case conferences, staff meetings, semi-annual retreat activities, group supervision, individual supervision, and other various office duties.

Conducted intake assessments and weekly therapy for various clients from Purdue and the surrounding community.  Developed theory based conceptualizations of clients and derived individual treatment plans.  Implemented treatment plans in counseling and assessed client functioning in problem areas.  Presented case conceptualizations to supervisor and peers.  Completed required paperwork, including intake reports, weekly status reports, and termination reports.

Coordinated the Emily Mauzy Vogel Sophomore Leadership Development Conference, First Annual Student Leaders Retreat, and Women in Leadership Conference, which involved the supervision of over 40 student staff and 250 participants.  Developed leadership training opportunities and programs for students through these programs.  Co-coordinated “Grand Alternative” – a campus wide event to promote alcohol free celebration of Grand Prix.  Managed a $50,000 budget for Student Enrichment Education Development Programs (SEED).  Through this endowment I also organized the first Student Organization Advisors Orientation, Student Organization Awards Banquet, and Presidents Dinner.  Editor of Advisor handbook and semi-annual Newsletter.  Aided in marketing of office services through activities carnivals, “Getting Involved” booklet, freshmen orientation program, and other presentations.  Performed generalist activities related to management of Student Activities and Organizations area, such as event planning and approval, advising student groups, and publicizing services of the office.  Served as a liaison to faculty and staff advisors to over 640 student organizations.
