Part 1 Castles in Spain

Week 9 Sunday August 14th to Saturday August 20th

I found out another of the reasons that I'm getting on Alicia's nerves. I came right out and asked her 'cause I could tell that something was bugging her. I say "please" too much. Nobody here says please, at leeast non of the "young" people. Like in a bar for example.

You could say "Could I please have a beer". I can honestly say that I have never heard ANYONE say that, not even the "older" people. they say "give me this" or "give me that in Canada we are a nation of pleasers and thank-youers. Please this and thank-you that. Go to the store and buy a loaf of bread. You say "can I please have a loaf of bread", then the girl at the cash says, "that will be a dollar fifty please, then you hand her the money and she says "thank-you" and then when she hands you back the change, you say "thank-you" to her and then she says "have a nice day and thank-you for shopping at Loblaws."

In Bilbao it would go something like this: You say "pan" (bread) she says "un Euro", you give her the money, she gives you the bread and that's it. If you really hit it off you might say "hasta luego" (see you later) at the end. Here people often say "see you later" even when they probably never will. You see people you know in the street and without even having the barest thread of a conversation you say "see you later". It strikes me as funny but no one here seems to get it.

I know that when I get back to Canada each please and thenk-you that I hear will be like a thorn in my side but whatever.

Yeh, I'm still working on finding new accommodation before one of these two kill me. I don't really spend much time in the "piso" (thank God), I'm still spending enormous wads of my life with that Claudette character. Man has she grown on me. We hang out and talk about life and our mutual lack of prospects. I started working on a new song. No title, just chords and a feel. Don't call Daniel Lanois just yet.
