Anyone recognize this cute little critter? Koalas actually spend most of their day sleeping but this guy must have felt his tummy rumbling because he woke up, climbed down the tree and over to another one for an afternoon snack . This pic was taken at Healsville Sanctuary, though we later saw some wild koalas sleeping in the trees along the Great Ocean Road on another day trip from Melbourne.
Kangaroos! It was afternoon so these ones were snoozing in the shade.
This little one is a baby wombat. It's mom was killed so the sanctuary has taken over its care. Everytime before it goes to sleep it cuddles up to its stuffed animal. As adults, wombats are often compared to a brick on four legs because they are so solid, but we think they're adorable.
And what is this you ask? Its an echina. It looks like a cross between a porcupine and an ant eater but is evolutionarily distinct from either one. It is one of only two monotremes in Australia. The other is the platypus.
