Christmas in the Sun
Melbourne, Australia
We arrived in Australia on Dec. 23 where we spent the next two weeks with Kendra's Uncle Glenn and his family, (affectionately known as the Aussie Wormalds) just outside of Melbourne. Unfortunately Leanne, the oldest of the girls could not be there as she is off on her own travel adventures. Don't worry Leanne, we'll meet up yet!
And speaking of Leanne, here is Mildred the cat, "talking" to her on Christmas morning. Leanne was actually with us for over two hours on the speaker phone while we opened our gifts.
And here we are at Christmas dinner. We believe the temperature was about 28 degrees Celcius that day-- nice and mild for summer in Melbourne, and perfect for dinner on the veranda.
A home base, for a while...
Side trips during those two weeks included many things...
All the comforts of home--and a big loveable cat called Mildred. Mildred is actually not the only cat in the household, but Romany (sorry if I spelled that wrong Alyssa) is kind of shy so we were unable to get a picture of her.
Among them, a trip to Healsville sanctuary, an open air reserve of sorts where you can see all different kinds of native australian wildlife. Needless to say we had our cameras out the whole time! You can see some of our animal pictures on the next page
Another day trip took us into the Dandenongs (the mountains right behind Glenn and Kim's house) where Glenn treated us to a ride on the Puffing Billy after about a 10k hike.
The best part about the Puffy Billy is that you can hang out the windows and feel the breeze as the train puffs along. A lot of people actually sit on the upper railing and let their feet dangle, and yes, we did too, for a bit. What fun!
The last four pictures are courtesy of Glenn and his little digital camera. We actually don't have our pictures past Christmas developed yet, but no worries. Take a gander at some of our wildlife pictures, and the rest of our aussie pictures should be up in a couple months (we hope!).
