| The Killing Fields... sad images of Camboda. Yes the skulls are real. The stupa on the right is actually much taller than it looks in the picture and the whole interior of it is filled with a towering glass case containing near 9000 skulls. These were recovered from the mass graves that were dug and filled by Pol Pots men during his rule from 1975-79. It is estimated that up to 1/3 of the population was killed in his effort to make Cambodia into the peasant-farming ideal of Angkorian times. Killing fields like this existed throughout the country, though this one outside of Phnom Penh is the most well known . In the foreground of the picture on the right are human bones also found in the fields. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
