Proposed
Christian Employee Network
Updated March 1, 2003
Q&A
Since you are visiting this site, chances are, youre interested in the effort to create a Christian Employee Network at Delta Air Lines. The Formation Committee is carefully considering many aspects of this project and are in the process of formulating a program, which will be acceptable to Christians as well as Delta. However, while we have received many positive comments, there still remains unanswered questions, and as we progress further into this project, more questions emerge.  Here is your opportunity to ask even the toughest questions so that you may be completely informed. If you have a question or concern, most likely someone else does too. Please send your questions, comments, or concerns to Tim Files, and on the subject line write, CEND Question. Your question along with an answer, will be added to this page as soon as possible, but your name will remain anonymous.
Q: Is the Christian Employee Network a reactionary measure to counter some of
        the other Global Diversity groups?

A: No.  The Christian Employee Network is an opportunity for Christians at Delta Air Lines to do a number of  things.

First, CEND will be an organization to break stereotypes. Too often, Christians are portrayed in a negative light, especially in the media.  Here is an opportunity to show other Delta Employees and Delta customers that true Christians have integrity, have love and compassion for our fellow workers no matter who they are, and have a work ethic that reflects how Christians ought to work.

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men,... Colossians 3:23

Second, there will be many occasions to work side-by-side with other Global Diversity groups, working within Delta's mission, creating opportunities to influence those around us.  Although we are in the world, we are not of the world.

Third, the leadership at Delta asks the Global Diversity groups their opinions concerning marketing matters and other issues.  CEND would like to be in a position to influence Deltas decision making, especially in the areas of marketing, and policies that affect all Delta employees.
Q:How will the Christian Employee Network promote diversity?

A: True Christians love all people of every persuasion.  It makes no difference what other people look like, how they think, or how they live; we are all valuable as human beings in the sight of God , which true Christians recognize.  This does not mean that we should agree with or condone actions that violate our beliefs, but what it does mean is that we should treat everyone with dignity and respect and there is no reason that we should not strive to get along with or work beside someone who might be different from ourselves.
Q:Why does Delta need a Christian Employee Network?

A: The Christian Employee Network will be in a position to affect all airline employees in a positive way, seeking to provide training and resources toward creating more productive, highly motivated employees.  These goals can be achieved through seminars, conferences, newsletters, e-mail, and  formal meetings.  Delta should realize that many of their customers are people of faith, and should want to promote Delta Air Lines among them.  The Christian Employee Network could be a resource for marketing the Delta Brand among people of faith.
Q: I noticed that the flyer promoting the Christian Employee Network begins by addressing "All interested Christian employees...".  Doesn't this violate the principles of Delta's Global Diversity since it excludes all other Delta employees?

A: Not at all.  First, all Delta employees will be eligible to join the Christian Employee Network. The flyer promoting the network simply invites Christians throughout the company to pray for the network, promote the network among fellow employees, and sign on to become informal members. This will allow the Christian Employee Network leadership to better communicate with those that are interested, and also gain a general understanding of how many people are truely interested in the program. According to Delta's Gobal Diversity Home page under Networking Groups, "The purpose of a networking group is for Delta Employees of common interests to foster professional growth and education, and to promote the company's inclusive values and corporate goals".
