Chronicles 14

1
¶So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the
city of David: and Asa his son reigned in his stead. In his days
the land was quiet ten years.
2 And Asa did that which was good and right in the eyes of the LORD
his God:
3 For he took away the altars of the strange gods, and the high
places, and brake down the images, and cut down the groves:
4 And commanded Judah to seek the LORD God of their fathers, and
to do the law and the commandment.
5 Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places
and the images: and the kingdom was quiet before him.
6 And he built fenced cities in Judah: for the land had rest, and
he had no war in those years; because the LORD had given him rest.
7 Therefore he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities, and make
about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is
yet before us; because we have sought the LORD our God, we have
sought him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built
and prospered.
8 And Asa had an army of men that bare targets and spears, out of
Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bare shields
and drew bows, two hundred and fourscore thousand: all these were
mighty men of valour.
9 ¶And there came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with
an host of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots; and
came unto Mareshah.
10 Then Asa went out against him, and they set the battle in array
in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.
11 And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing
with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no
power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy
name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let
not man prevail against thee.
12 So the LORD smote the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah;
and the Ethiopians fled.
13 And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them unto Gerar:
and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that they could not recover
themselves; for they were destroyed before the LORD, and before
his host; and they carried away very much spoil.
14 And they smote all the cities round about Gerar; for the fear
of the LORD came upon them: and they spoiled all the cities; for
there was exceeding much spoil in them.
15 They smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep and
camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.

1
¶And the Spirit of God came upon Azariah the son of Oded:
2 And he went out to meet Asa, and said unto him, Hear ye me, Asa,
and all Judah and Benjamin; The LORD is with you, while ye be with
him; and if ye seek him, he will be found of you; but if ye forsake
him, he will forsake you.
3 Now for a long season Israel hath been without the true God, and
without a teaching priest, and without law.
4 But when they in their trouble did turn unto the LORD God of Israel,
and sought him, he was found of them.
5 And in those times there was no peace to him that went out, nor
to him that came in, but great vexations were upon all the inhabitants
of the countries.
6 And nation was destroyed of nation, and city of city: for God
did vex them with all adversity.
7 Be ye strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak: for your
work shall be rewarded.
8 ¶And when Asa heard these words, and the prophecy of Oded
the prophet, he took courage, and put away the abominable idols
out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities
which he had taken from mount Ephraim, and renewed the altar of
the LORD, that was before the porch of the LORD.
9 And he gathered all Judah and Benjamin, and the strangers with
them out of Ephraim and Manasseh, and out of Simeon: for they fell
to him out of Israel in abundance, when they saw that the LORD his
God was with him.
10 So they gathered themselves together at Jerusalem in the third
month, in the fifteenth year of the reign of Asa.
11 And they offered unto the LORD the same time, of the spoil which
they had brought, seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep.
12 And they entered into a covenant to seek the LORD God of their
fathers with all their heart and with all their soul;
13 That whosoever would not seek the LORD God of Israel should be
put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.
14 And they sware unto the LORD with a loud voice, and with shouting,
and with trumpets, and with cornets.
15 And all Judah rejoiced at the oath: for they had sworn with all
their heart, and sought him with their whole desire; and he was
found of them: and the LORD gave them rest round about.
16 And also concerning Maachah the mother of Asa the king, he removed
her from being queen, because she had made an idol in a grove: and
Asa cut down her idol, and stamped it, and burnt it at the brook
Kidron.
17 But the high places were not taken away out of Israel: nevertheless
the heart of Asa was perfect all his days.
18 And he brought into the house of God the things that his father
had dedicated, and that he himself had dedicated, silver, and gold,
and vessels.
19 And there was no more war unto the five and thirtieth year of
the reign of Asa.

1 ¶Afterward he brought me again unto the door of the house;
and, behold, waters issued out from under the threshold of the house
eastward: for the forefront of the house stood toward the east,
and the waters came down from under from the right side of the house,
at the south side of the altar.
2 Then brought he me out of the way of the gate northward, and led
me about the way without unto the utter gate by the way that looketh
eastward; and, behold, there ran out waters on the right side.
3 And when the man that had the line in his hand went forth eastward,
he measured a thousand cubits, and he brought me through the waters;
the waters were to the ankles.
4 Again he measured a thousand, and brought me through the waters;
the waters were to the knees. Again he measured a thousand, and
brought me through; the waters were to the loins.
5 Afterward he measured a thousand; and it was a river that I could
not pass over: for the waters were risen, waters to swim in, a river
that could not be passed over.
6 And he said unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen this? Then he
brought me, and caused me to return to the brink of the river.
7 Now when I had returned, behold, at the bank of the river were
very many trees on the one side and on the other.
8 Then said he unto me, These waters issue out toward the east country,
and go down into the desert, and go into the sea: which being brought
forth into the sea, the waters shall be healed.
9 And it shall come to pass, that every thing that liveth, which
moveth, whithersoever the rivers shall come, shall live: and there
shall be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters shall
come thither: for they shall be healed; and every thing shall live
whither the river cometh.
10 And it shall come to pass, that the fishers shall stand upon
it from Engedi even unto Eneglaim; they shall be a place to spread
forth nets; their fish shall be according to their kinds, as the
fish of the great sea, exceeding many.
11 But the miry places thereof and the marishes thereof shall not
be healed; they shall be given to salt.
12 And by the river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that
side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not fade,
neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed: it shall bring forth
new fruit according to his months, because their waters they issued
out of the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and
the leaf thereof for medicine.
13 ¶Thus saith the Lord GOD; This shall be the border, whereby
ye shall inherit the land according to the twelve tribes of Israel:
Joseph shall have two portions.
14 And ye shall inherit it, one as well as another: concerning the
which I lifted up mine hand to give it unto your fathers: and this
land shall fall unto you for inheritance.
15 And this shall be the border of the land toward the north side,
from the great sea, the way of Hethlon, as men go to Zedad;
16 Hamath, Berothah, Sibraim, which is between the border of Damascus
and the border of Hamath; Hazarhatticon, which is by the coast of
Hauran.
17 And the border from the sea shall be Hazarenan, the border of
Damascus, and the north northward, and the border of Hamath. And
this is the north side.
18 And the east side ye shall measure from Hauran, and from Damascus,
and from Gilead, and from the land of Israel by Jordan, from the
border unto the east sea. And this is the east side.
19 And the south side southward, from Tamar even to the waters of
strife in Kadesh, the river to the great sea. And this is the south
side southward.
20 The west side also shall be the great sea from the border, till
a man come over against Hamath. This is the west side.
21 So shall ye divide this land unto you according to the tribes
of Israel.
22 And it shall come to pass, that ye shall divide it by lot for
an inheritance unto you, and to the strangers that sojourn among
you, which shall beget children among you: and they shall be unto
you as born in the country among the children of Israel; they shall
have inheritance with you among the tribes of Israel.
23 And it shall come to pass, that in what tribe the stranger sojourneth,
there shall ye give him his inheritance, saith the Lord GOD.

1 ¶I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and
every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring
forth more fruit.
3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of
itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide
in me.
5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and
I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye
can do nothing.
6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is
withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and
they are burned.
7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what
ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall
ye be my disciples.
9 ¶As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue
ye in my love.
10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as
I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.
11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain
in you, and that your joy might be full.
12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved
you.
13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life
for his friends.
14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.
15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not
what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things
that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.
16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you,
that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should
remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he
may give it you.
17 These things I command you, that ye love one another.
18 ¶If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before
it hated you.
19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because
ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world,
therefore the world hateth you.
20 Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater
than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute
you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.
21 But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake,
because they know not him that sent me.
22 If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin:
but now they have no cloke for their sin.
23 He that hateth me hateth my Father also.
24 If I had not done among them the works which none other man did,
they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both
me and my Father.
25 But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that
is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.
26 ¶But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you
from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from
the Father, he shall testify of me:
27 And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me
from the beginning.

1 ¶These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not
be offended.
2 They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh,
that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.
3 And these things will they do unto you, because they have not
known the Father, nor me.
4 But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come,
ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said
not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you.
5 But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh
me, Whither goest thou?
6 But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled
your heart.
7 ¶Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you
that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come
unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of
righteousness, and of judgment:
9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;
10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no
more;
11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them
now.
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide
you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever
he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things
to come.
14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall
shew it unto you.
15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that
he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
16 ¶A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little
while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.
17 Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this
that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me:
and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go
to the Father?
18 They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while?
we cannot tell what he saith.
19 Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto
them, Do ye enquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while,
and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall
see me?
20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament,
but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your
sorrow shall be turned into joy.
21 A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour
is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth
no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.
22 And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and
your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.
23 ¶And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily,
I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he
will give it you.
24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall
receive, that your joy may be full.
25 These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time
cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall
shew you plainly of the Father.
26 At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you,
that I will pray the Father for you:
27 For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me,
and have believed that I came out from God.
28 ¶I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world:
again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.
29 His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and
speakest no proverb.
30 Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not
that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest
forth from God.
31 Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe?
32 Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered,
every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not
alone, because the Father is with me.
33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have
peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer;
I have overcome the world.
