Esther

1
¶So the king and Haman came to banquet with Esther the queen.
2 And the king said again unto Esther on the second day at the banquet
of wine, What is thy petition, queen Esther? and it shall be granted
thee: and what is thy request? and it shall be performed, even to
the half of the kingdom.
3 Then Esther the queen answered and said, If I have found favour
in thy sight, O king, and if it please the king, let my life be
given me at my petition, and my people at my request:
4 For we are sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be slain,
and to perish. But if we had been sold for bondmen and bondwomen,
I had held my tongue, although the enemy could not countervail the
king's damage.
5 Then the king Ahasuerus answered and said unto Esther the queen,
Who is he, and where is he, that durst presume in his heart to do
so?
6 And Esther said, The adversary and enemy is this wicked Haman.
Then Haman was afraid before the king and the queen.
7 ¶And the king arising from the banquet of wine in his wrath
went into the palace garden: and Haman stood up to make request
for his life to Esther the queen; for he saw that there was evil
determined against him by the king.
8 Then the king returned out of the palace garden into the place
of the banquet of wine; and Haman was fallen upon the bed whereon
Esther was. Then said the king, Will he force the queen also before
me in the house? As the word went out of the king's mouth, they
covered Haman's face.
9 And Harbonah, one of the chamberlains, said before the king, Behold
also, the gallows fifty cubits high, which Haman had made for Mordecai,
who had spoken good for the king, standeth in the house of Haman.
Then the king said, Hang him thereon.
10 So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for
Mordecai. Then was the king's wrath pacified.

1
¶On that day did the king Ahasuerus give the house of Haman
the Jews' enemy unto Esther the queen. And Mordecai came before
the king; for Esther had told what he was unto her.
2 And the king took off his ring, which he had taken from Haman,
and gave it unto Mordecai. And Esther set Mordecai over the house
of Haman.
3 ¶And Esther spake yet again before the king, and fell down
at his feet, and besought him with tears to put away the mischief
of Haman the Agagite, and his device that he had devised against
the Jews.
4 Then the king held out the golden sceptre toward Esther. So Esther
arose, and stood before the king,
5 And said, If it please the king, and if I have found favour in
his sight, and the thing seem right before the king, and I be pleasing
in his eyes, let it be written to reverse the letters devised by
Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, which he wrote to destroy
the Jews which are in all the king's provinces:
6 For how can I endure to see the evil that shall come unto my people?
or how can I endure to see the destruction of my kindred?
7 Then the king Ahasuerus said unto Esther the queen and to Mordecai
the Jew, Behold, I have given Esther the house of Haman, and him
they have hanged upon the gallows, because he laid his hand upon
the Jews.
8 Write ye also for the Jews, as it liketh you, in the king's name,
and seal it with the king's ring: for the writing which is written
in the king's name, and sealed with the king's ring, may no man
reverse.
9 Then were the king's scribes called at that time in the third
month, that is, the month Sivan, on the three and twentieth day
thereof; and it was written according to all that Mordecai commanded
unto the Jews, and to the lieutenants, and the deputies and rulers
of the provinces which are from India unto Ethiopia, an hundred
twenty and seven provinces, unto every province according to the
writing thereof, and unto every people after their language, and
to the Jews according to their writing, and according to their language.
10 And he wrote in the king Ahasuerus' name, and sealed it with
the king's ring, and sent letters by posts on horseback, and riders
on mules, camels, and young dromedaries:
11 Wherein the king granted the Jews which were in every city to
gather themselves together, and to stand for their life, to destroy,
to slay, and to cause to perish, all the power of the people and
province that would assault them, both little ones and women, and
to take the spoil of them for a prey,
12 Upon one day in all the provinces of king Ahasuerus, namely,
upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month
Adar.
13 The copy of the writing for a commandment to be given in every
province was published unto all people, and that the Jews should
be ready against that day to avenge themselves on their enemies.
14 So the posts that rode upon mules and camels went out, being
hastened and pressed on by the king's commandment. And the decree
was given at Shushan the palace.
15 ¶And Mordecai went out from the presence of the king in
royal apparel of blue and white, and with a great crown of gold,
and with a garment of fine linen and purple: and the city of Shushan
rejoiced and was glad.
16 The Jews had light, and gladness, and joy, and honour.
17 And in every province, and in every city, whithersoever the king's
commandment and his decree came, the Jews had joy and gladness,
a feast and a good day. And many of the people of the land became
Jews; for the fear of the Jews fell upon them.

Obadiah
1
|
|
1 ¶The vision of Obadiah. Thus saith the Lord GOD concerning
Edom; We have heard a rumour from the LORD, and an ambassador is
sent among the heathen, Arise ye, and let us rise up against her
in battle.
2 Behold, I have made thee small among the heathen: thou art greatly
despised.
3 The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest
in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith
in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground?
4 Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle, and though thou set thy
nest among the stars, thence will I bring thee down, saith the LORD.
5 If thieves came to thee, if robbers by night, (how art thou cut
off!) would they not have stolen till they had enough? if the grapegatherers
came to thee, would they not leave some grapes?
6 How are the things of Esau searched out! how are his hidden things
sought up!
7 All the men of thy confederacy have brought thee even to the border:
the men that were at peace with thee have deceived thee, and prevailed
against thee; they that eat thy bread have laid a wound under thee:
there is none understanding in him.
8 Shall I not in that day, saith the LORD, even destroy the wise
men out of Edom, and understanding out of the mount of Esau?
9 And thy mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed, to the end that
every one of the mount of Esau may be cut off by slaughter.
10 ¶For thy violence against thy brother Jacob shame shall
cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever.
11 In the day that thou stoodest on the other side, in the day that
the strangers carried away captive his forces, and foreigners entered
into his gates, and cast lots upon Jerusalem, even thou wast as
one of them.
12 But thou shouldest not have looked on the day of thy brother
in the day that he became a stranger; neither shouldest thou have
rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction;
neither shouldest thou have spoken proudly in the day of distress.
13 Thou shouldest not have entered into the gate of my people in
the day of their calamity; yea, thou shouldest not have looked on
their affliction in the day of their calamity, nor have laid hands
on their substance in the day of their calamity;
14 Neither shouldest thou have stood in the crossway, to cut off
those of his that did escape; neither shouldest thou have delivered
up those of his that did remain in the day of distress.
15 For the day of the LORD is near upon all the heathen: as thou
hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon
thine own head.
16 For as ye have drunk upon my holy mountain, so shall all the
heathen drink continually, yea, they shall drink, and they shall
swallow down, and they shall be as though they had not been.
17 ¶But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall
be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.
18 And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph
a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle
in them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of
the house of Esau; for the LORD hath spoken it.
19 And they of the south shall possess the mount of Esau; and they
of the plain the Philistines: and they shall possess the fields
of Ephraim, and the fields of Samaria: and Benjamin shall possess
Gilead.
20 And the captivity of this host of the children of Israel shall
possess that of the Canaanites, even unto Zarephath; and the captivity
of Jerusalem, which is in Sepharad, shall possess the cities of
the south.
21 And saviours shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of
Esau; and the kingdom shall be the LORD'S.

Hebrews
3
|
|
1 ¶Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling,
consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;
2 Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was
faithful in all his house.
3 For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch
as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house.
4 For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all
things is God.
5 And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant,
for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after;
6 But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if
we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto
the end.
7 ¶Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear
his voice,
8 Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation
in the wilderness:
9 When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty
years.
10 Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They
do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways.
11 So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.)
12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart
of unbelief, in departing from the living God.
13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest
any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning
of our confidence stedfast unto the end;
15 While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not
your hearts, as in the provocation.
16 For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that
came out of Egypt by Moses.
17 But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them
that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness?
18 And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest,
but to them that believed not?
19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.

Hebrews
4
|
|
1 ¶Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of
entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of
it.
2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but
the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith
in them that heard it.
3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As
I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although
the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise,
And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.
5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.
6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and
they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:
7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after
so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice,
harden not your hearts.
8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward
have spoken of another day.
9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from
his own works, as God did from his.
11 ¶Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any
man fall after the same example of unbelief.
12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than
any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul
and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of
the thoughts and intents of the heart.
13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight:
but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom
we have to do.
14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed
into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the
feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as
we are, yet without sin.
16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we
may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Hebrews
5
|
|
1 ¶For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for
men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and
sacrifices for sins:
2 Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are
out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity.
3 And by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for
himself, to offer for sins.
4 And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called
of God, as was Aaron.
5 So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest;
but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten
thee.
6 As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever
after the order of Melchisedec.
7 Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and
supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able
to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;
8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which
he suffered;
9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation
unto all them that obey him;
10 ¶Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec.
11 Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing
ye are dull of hearing.
12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that
one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles
of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong
meat.
13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness:
for he is a babe.
14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even
those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern
both good and evil.
