Ms. Bello's Reading Recovery Page
Reading Recovery is an intense early intervention reading program for at-risk first graders.  This research based, individually tailored program was designed by Dr. Marie Clay.  For approximately 12-20 weeks each student will be given one-on-one instruction for 30 minutes a day.  It is the goal of Reading Recovery to accelerate the child to meet his/her average classmates.

Ms. Bello
When helping your child read at home, try to choose the "just right" book and the following strategies:

1. Tell the child to look at the
pictures.

2. Tell the child to look for chunks in the word, such as it in sit, at in mat, or and & ing in standing.

3. Ask your child to get his/her mouth ready to say the word by shaping their mouth for the beginning letter.

4.  Ask the child if the word looks like another word he/she knows.
Does bed look like red? This will help them to make analogies.

5.  Ask your child to go on and read the next sentence.  Often by reading the other words in context, the child can figure out the unknown word.

6.
Most importantly, if the child says the wrong word while reading, ask these questions.

Does it make sense?
         Does it look right?
         Does it sound right?

7.Have your child retell they story.
1. Familiar Readings  (2-3)
2.
Running Record
3. Letter Sorting
4.  Making and Breaking of Known Words with Magnetic Letters

5.  Story Writing

6. Cut up sentence and sequencing

7. New Book Introduction
