Extra! Extra! Read all about it…Reading Recovery is here
and I’m proud to shout it. This
year #4 school is proud to continue our very successful
Reading Recovery program.
Are
you wondering what Reading Recovery is???
It’s simple.
Reading Recovery is an early intervention program developed by
Marie Clay to serve children in first grade who are having difficulty learning
to read and write. The goal of the
program is to produce independent readers and writers. This is done through
accelerated learning. Children
accepted into this program are expected to make faster than average progress so
that they can catch up to their classmates. This program acts as a “safety net” for
our first graders and our highly respected first grade teachers Mrs. Carter and
Dr. Eagles. Reading Recovery
students receive one on one tutoring from me for 30 minutes a day, five days a
week for an average of 12-20 weeks depending on the student. Reading Recovery is supplemental to
classroom instruction and Title I Reading with Mrs. Reichert. Once the child is able to demonstrate
solid evidence of having developed an independent reading/writing system the
student is tested and discontinued from the program. However, they are not discontinued from
my life. I will continue to work
with a Reading Recovery student on an “as need” basis throughout first
and second grade. I am proud of the
accomplishments of my last year students and look forward to the success of this
year’s students.
