1 How fast are R/C Tanks?

Not very fast, but real tanks cant travel that fast because of their weight.  Most of the R/C Tanks can go about walking speed.  This is because there gearboxes are geared for power so they can climb almost anything.

2 Where can I buy a R/C Tank

Try visiting your local hobby shop, however some R/C tanks are only available through the internet click here for links to online shops.

3 Do all the Tanks shoot / Which tanks shoot?

No, most of the tanks don't shoot anything, however the tanks made by Tokyo Marui and Academy models fire small BBs.  The tamiya tanks can be upgraded to a safe infrared battle system, click here for more information

4 What else do I need to buy besides the tank?

Depends if the tank is electric like the tamiya tanks, you'll need a 7.2V battery and charger, plus a 4 channel radio set.  If you have a R/C car you can use the battery from that.  Some tanks are petrol or nitro and require the specified fuel.  Always check with the place of purchase before you buy the tank.  Most shops do special deal prices including all the gear necessary to run a R/C tank.

5 What tank would you recommend for a small child?

Try the excellent Hobbytech 1/16 M1A1 Abram's or the Kyosho Pocket Armour.

6 How big are these tanks?

I've given the scales of the models to give an idea of size, for example 1/8th scale is 8 times smaller than the real thing (quite big) the smaller the number the bigger the tank.  1/16th is most common.

Tips:

  • Avoid small pebbles and sticks, because they get caught up between the road wheels and the tracks.

  • For extra battery run times make sure you discharge the battery with a discharger or running until the tank runs out of power.
