"South Korean Export Control Awareness on Rise but Compliance Lacking" -- November 2005
This article first appeared in the November 2005, Issue 2, International Export Control Observer, a monthly publication by the
Center for Nonproliferation Studies, Monterey Institute of International Studies. The article, which was written based on both English
and Korean sources, attempts to analyze Korean public sentiments and problems concerning strategic goods exports.
Policy Memo: NK Nuclear Crisis -- December 17, 2004
A policy memorandum written for a MIIS graduate course, Comparative National Security Policies with Prof. JD Yuan. The project
requirements were: 1) pretend to be an analyst/expert; 2) address a security issue; and 3) recommend a policy option to a government
official or body of my choosing.
Network Centric Warfare: Real Advantages or Science Fiction? -- December 15, 2004
A short research paper. Written for a MIIS graduate course -- Technology and International Security with Prof. Clay Moltz -- the project
requirements were to explore "an emerging technology" and make an option recommendation to a potential government of my choosing.
"Second Cousin" -- March 19, 2004
A short essay about a short-story written by the Korean author Lee Hyun-joo. This essay was written for a directed-study with Mr. Lee
Sae-kyun, an instructor from the Defense Language Institute (DLI) in Monterey, California. The project required the ability to read and
comprehend the Korean essay and the ability to clearly and creatively write my comments in Korean.
Terrorism and WMD: The Unnoticed Chemical Threat -- March 2, 2004
An op-ed piece. This was written for Gary Ackerman's course at MIIS, and it addresses the difficulties associated with safeguarding
potential chemical threats. It was never attempted to be published.
The Driving Force Behind the Development of Nuclear Weapons -- December 16, 2003
A research proposal to study the causes and effects of why a state decides to pursue the development of nuclear weapons. It was written
for Prof. Philip Morgan's Policy Studies and Research Methods course at MIIS.
The North Korean Threat -- November 5, 2003
A short essay. This essay, about the basic threats of the North Korean regime, was written for a directed-study with Ms. Michelle Rim,
an instructor from the Defense Language Institute (DLI) in Monterey, California.
