A Page dedicated to Arizona Bird Hunting, German Shorthairs, and the Upland Hunting Life
When I was young my dad and my uncle Charles took me with them as they hunted Gambel's quail and Mourning Dove in the area around Prescott, Arizona.  I progressed from tag-along, to bird carrier, to gun carrier, to dog handler, and finally to full fledged hunter.  On the way they instilled in me a love for nature and the outdoors, for dogs, and for the great state in which I live, which remains undiminished today.

It has been more than 35 years now since the process started and the state I call home has changed significantly - for the worse.  Too many wild places have been turned into subdivisions to house too many people, too much of our public lands are cow-burned and degraded, and too many of our public officials are whores for business interests. We now have only a fraction of the wildlife and wildlife habitat that we did even 35 years ago when I was a boy.  

However that passion for wild Arizona, bird dogs,  and the wildlife that call it home have remained with me.  It inspires me to fight to preserve the remaining stretches of undeveloped lands and the wildlife that call it home - so that future generations may walk it, shotgun in hand, behind a fine bird dog, and see the magic I have seen.

Aldo Leopold once noted that to be a hunter is to be a conservationist - and I fit the bill.
