Drops, monsters, the deaths......

Gear for 14-16:
Schaefer's Hammer
Full Plate Mail 68 (found start of 14, previously Scale Mail 23)
Kite Shield 11 / Tower Shield of Tiger 17.50 (Laz)
Amu Stars+9
Ring Skill+8
Constricting Ring (on and off)

Just when Diablo was last one alive, used last four ID's:
Awesome Gothic Plate (from BK on 16)
Ring of Tiger+48 (Succubus on 13)
Falchion of Precision +19
Amu of Precision+19
(good combo but dmg dips to 28-33)

so, changes to gear for that last battle:
Awe Goth Plate worn, AC now 179, up from 112
The Ring of the Tiger, since no resists needed
plain Bastard Sword was used, to stun (33-42 dmg)

clvl 24 (*just* short of 25)
AC 178 (112 up til last minute)
HP 278 (130 with bow on Advo hunts)
Mana 45
Dmg 33-42 (stuns anything)
Dex: 77 (blocked 65%)
ToHit: 98 on screen, 142 real, which hits Diablo 62%
Str: 104

For comparison's Sake:

Gear at end of Church:
Fine Falchion (Leo)
White Leather of Might from some Skel Boss
and Chain Mail AC 20 of Radiance from Leo
Skull Cap of Light AC 3
Buckler AC 5(Mage had WizWrap, HB, HO, and Staffs of HB,CB)
- drops are on the poor side, things looking fair
- the Blood fountain at the dungeon entrance was a saving grace. HOW crucial it was we would not know for a long long time. Thus began heavy pot conservation mode.
- almost no Archers (none on 3 especially) was very nice

Gear at end of Cats:
Fine Falchion, plain Bastard Sword
Scale Mail 21
Small Shield 8
Gold Amu of Radiance (30/40:)
Ring Skill+8
Constricting Ring (unused)
(Mage had Amu of Vim+7, no MS, and not much more spells)
- drops were really lame thru 7, then a bastard sword was found and very useful, the CR (jokingly we thought good for hell) and the Gold Radiance was bittersweet. I either had no AC and tohit or I glowed like the sun with a MS-less partner.
- the one thing i remember was that the monsters were consistently 'easy'. Stone Clan on 5 and i think 6, no Night Clan, no Foulwing or Wrathhaven on 5, etc. We would NOT have survived even Fire Clans mid-cats.
- magma demons and Firegrim were on 8, iirc

Gear at end of Caves:
Schaefer's Hammer (Goldblight of the Flame)
Scale Mail 23
Kite Shield 9
Amu Stars+9 (found on 12 i think, from a Lava Maw)
Ring Skill+8
Constricting Ring (on and off)
(Mage had SC2, Guardian, but not FW,MS... and was dead)
- Schaefer rocked, although getting it cost us one life (that Blood Claw boss really hurt, and quick)
- Death Wings on 11 could have easily ended it, and they were lightning immune. Warr wore the Might armor to stun.
- Lava Maws on 12 were rough. Also Slayer rogs, which the Hammer tore apart very nicely.
- Overactivation of maws almost blew the game, sucked down five potions in a matter of seconds
- no Illusion weavers, no Plaguewrath, happily
- dlvl 9 Night Clan arcs, Poison spitters, horned demons (or mud men?)
- dlvl 10 Blood Claw, pit beasts
- dlvl 11 Death Wing, Flayed Ones, Poison spitters
- dlvl 12 Lava Maw, Slayers
- dlvl 13 Guardians, Succubus
- dlvl 14 Vortex Lords, Fire Drakes (Hammer time baby!) (no potion used in hell til 1/4 thru lvl 15:)
- dlvl 15 Hell Spawn, Magistrate
Laz and RV dropped Tower Shields, BJ a hammer, Lust a cap, also Spawn dropped two Amulets and Armor rack dropped Gothic Plate
- dlvl 16 BK,Adv, corridor layout, Gorash dropped a club :(
BK's dropped a PAIR of magic Gothic Plate

Deaths and Res:
- bought one res to start game :-)
- found 2 in church, 1 on dlvl 12
No deaths in church or cats (for a change, no desync helped!)
- pseudo death on 9, a friend entered Nori, Warr dropped out, came back in, lost map, then trying to regain it the third party came DOWN to 9 to watch, leading to respawn (while typing a message to him to get out, no less!) and warrior death in a totally under-control situation. Ruled a free res. (Third party was not asked to join game and definitely not asked to come downstairs. There's not a shred of doubt that there was no danger, and that no death or even injury would have ensued. We still love him:)
- Warr died on 10 to Goldblight. What a bear. Chose to take him in a lava section where we could melee - could not do dmg with bow fast enough to kill him, and mage was dry. This was preventable, but he hit so fast it was over quick. Last res available used.
- Mage died on 11, trapped by several DW and Flayed Ones. Preventable, we left no retreat for him. Flayed ones just took too long for me to kill.
No res until one was found on dlvl 12. Mage then brought back on 13.
- Mage died on 13, trapped with no escape by several Guardians. This was preventable too, just no reason for it (see strat section). Sadly, no more res found that game. His limp body was carried to lvl 16 for the very last battle :-) Poor guy never had a lightning spell, or firewall, nor firebolt beyond slvl 2, and no mana shield.
