Q: I need to contact the maintainer of the Midi Site, how do I do this?
A: For general mailings, questions, suggestions for the page, etc., Darkni may be contacted at the following address...
[email protected]

If you wish to contribute a piece of music, please see the section about Contributing for some additional information.

Q: What is the deal with those files that are offered as *Zip Only* on the pages? Are they going to melt down my computer if I download them, or what?
A: No, they won't melt down your computer ^_^ The reason I have put these files up in zip format is that they seem to have problems running under web browsers and Media Player. If you unzip these midis and play them on a midi player, there is no difference whatsoever from any of the other midis on the page.

I have also recently come to believe that this paticular problem may only occur with Win3.x systems and the associated browsers. Once I get my 3.1 system up and running again, I'll confirm whether this is true or not.

Just open these *zip only* files ONLY in Midi players, not with your web browser or Media Player and you'll be just fine. Some of the really good tunes are in those files, and you don't want to miss out on them!

Q: Can I use these midis as background music on my own web pages?
A: Absolutely! I love coming onto a page and hearing a rousing DQ tune come drifting from my speakers. Just make sure that if I have an author listed for the tune on my pages that you credit them with it on the page where the midi is used. I also ask that you link back to the Midi Shrine somewhere in your links page if you choose to do this.

Q: Can I make this music available for download from my own webpages?
A: Well, generally I would discourage doing this.... However, I won't get into an uproar provided you stick to the following guidelines...

(1) Make sure you credit authors when I have a listing for them
(2) Note somewhere that the music was obtained from the Midi Shrine and link back
(3) Don't link directly to the files on my AOL server
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Q: Can I use image files from the Midi Shrine on my own webpages?
A: Once again, I generally discourage this. Most of the image files are pretty well oriented specifically to this site and wouldn't do you a lot of good anyway.... There are a few exceptions......
(1) The (Translate DQ in English!) Graphic. I strongly encourage use of this on ALL DQ pages!
(2) My insignia, found at the bottom of all pages. Use this anywhere, and you'll find me breathing down your neck really quick.
Q: Darkniciad Cantel Softspake, cool! Can I.....
A: No, you cannot. Darkni's character and name (and all the variations of it I use) are the results of lots of work. If I catch anybody using any of this I'll be invading your personal space really quickly and violently.
There isn't a whole lot you need to know here, but here's a couple of things.
First priority goes to tunes that I don't have yet or new versions of tunes to which I have only a *zip* version available. This is the main thing I'm looking for as far as contributions.
Next up on the priority list is remixes of familiar songs. Maybe a casltevaniaesque rock remix, or perhaps just putting a few more instruments into a classic NES tune to make it sound better. I paticularly like these, especially when someone makes one special for my midi pages.
Everything else will be considered for the page. As long as it sounds a bit different from already existing tunes, it'll probably go up.
Normally contributions may all be sent to [email protected]
However, if your contribution is large (multiple midis in a zip for example) I prefer to have them sent to [email protected] because I can shunt those larger downloads to later parts of the evening when I'm not so busy with other things.
--*Downloading Q's*--
Back to the Top o' the page
Q: I clicked the link, and the midi is playing on my browser. I like it and want to download it to my computer, how do I do that?
A: This depends upon your browser and upon what midi plug-in you are using. If you're using the default Netscape plug-in for Midi, you're in luck. Just right click on the little midi player window and you'll get a menu box in which one selection will be "Save as". Choose this option and then pick a filename to save the midi on your hard drive.
If right clicking on the midi player doesn't give you a "Save as" option, then there's another method. Find the link you originally clicked to start the midi playing, and right click it. You should see a selection similar to "Save Target As". Select this and save the midi to your hard drive as detailed in the previous example.
Q: What is a .zip file? What do I do with it once I've downloaded it?
A: .zip files are files that have been compressed in size to make downloading them over the internet quicker. .zip is but one of many types of this compression and archaive type utility, and the most common in the US.
Download yourself a good zip file manager. I personally recommend Winzip which can be found at Winzip.Com
Once you have a zip file manager, simply extract the midi files from the zip to your hard drive and play them in a midi player.
Dragon Warrior and Dragon Quest are copyrighted concepts. This is simply a fan page and no toe stepping or stealing is intended. This site is in no way affiliated with or supported by Enix of Japan or anybody else who owns the original copyright and trademarks to this amazing series. It is simply my wish to keep the public informed of the wonders of DQ so that it might once more return to the former glory it held in the US.
