Background: Rayel was born at the over-crowded Keroon Hold on the Northern Continent. Her parents were farmers who were struggling with poverty and survival in a land that was overworked. When Rayel was 6 her mother, Ralla, died giving birth to Rayel�s brother Taiden. Two years later, Torggen married again to a woman named Shamira. However when Rayel was 13, Shamira fell ill with a fever and died, and Rayel ended up having tolook after the family and do all the work her mother (and later Shamira) normally did. It was soon after that that Torggen made the decision that the family needed a fresh start so they migrated South to Dark Cove Hold. Living in the South was much easier, despite the new dangers of the Southern Continent. The family was no longer struggling to survive and the conditions they were living in weren�t as over-crowded. Rayel developed an interest in leatherworking, though she was too old to be apprenticed to the Tanner Crafthall. When the Dragon Plague struck Rayel and the rest of her family watched in helpless horror as the dragon population was decimated. There was little they could do to help the dragonriders and they shared the fear that there would be no dragons left to fight Thread.

Personality: Underneath Rayel�s solid, unimaginative-looking exterior lies a sharp, agile mind. Rayel is a very practical and responsible person who is a good judge of character. She�s a friendly girl, with a quiet sense of humour, though she's not much of a party animal. One thing she hates is being pressured into doing something and while she isn�t a quick-tempered person she will get tempermental under pressure. She is used to looking after her younger brother Taiden and it has become somewhat of a habit for her. She�ll protect her younger brother despite the fact that sometimes he�d be better off learning to stand on his own.

Hobbies/Skills: Apart from normal farming skills, Rayel is also a decent cook and she enjoys doing leatherworking whenever she has a spare moment.
