Background: Ketran was the result of a flight between Tavria's green Kosanth and S'trav's blue Jaloth. His mother was too busy with her duties to look after him, so he was fostered to dragonhealer Kivaia. He was around dragons at an early age; helping to spread numbweed onto dragon injuries when he was only 6 turns old. To keep him out of trouble, Kivaia apprenticed him as a dragonhealer. He worked hard for many turns, although he stilled pulled pranks when Kivaia was too busy to watch him. One day, when he was 14 turns old; he went out to visit his sister. Once he was down talking to her, he headed back towards the entrance into the weyr. Suddenly he found his way blocked by his sister's green dragon, Aylath. His sister seemed to be just as surprised as he was by Aylath's behaviour. His sister's face had gone blank as she communicated with her dragon, and when she opened her eyes, she asked him to stand for Bronze Zodrath and Gold Amayanth's clutch. A few months later, he found himself standing on the sands for the first time in his life. Everything was so chaotic on the sands that he didn't know where to look. That was when he suddenly felt something bump into his legs from behind. When he turned, he found himself staring into the rainbow eyes of his new lifemate, brown Kujoth. Life was pretty good from then on, that is until he was just about to be tapped into a wing. He had been listening to the Weyrlingmaster when suddenly all the dragons began to keen loudly. He turned to his dragon to ask who had died and was startled to see that his dragon had hung his head before telling him in a meek mindvoice that his mother and her dragon Kosanth had died, as well as his father S'trav and his blue Jaloth. He was heartbroken and had to struggle to hold back tears. A few sevendays went by and K'tran had finally pulled out of his deep depression a bit. He began to come around again, although he was never the same after his parents deaths. His dragon was the one who had pulled him out of his depression. Things seemed to be going better after a few sevendays of rest and reflection, but then disaster struck again. He was out on sweep when suddenly his dragon began to keen loudly, causing K'tran to feel a cold stab of fear deep in his gut. His fear was well justified when Kujoth informed him that his sister and her green Aylath had died from the same thing as his mother and father, the plague had killed them all. It was just too much for K'tran to take. He ordered his dragon to take him /between/ so that he could be with his mother, father and sister in death. Kujoth couldn't stand his rider's mental anguish, so he readied himself to jump between. Suddenly a brassy bugle startled them both and a bronze wing overlapped Kujoth's brown, forcing him to land to avoid becoming tangled in the others wing. K'tran's brother K'vol then leaped from bronze Rubenth's shoulder onto to Kujoth's, before dragging the protesting K'tran off his dragon. K'vol then launched into a speech, telling his brother that K'tran was the only family he had left and that he wouldn't want to go on if his brother was dead too. Eventually, K'vol convinced K'tran not to go between. Instead, K'tran drowned his sorrows in wine, not willing to face the world after the deaths of so many that he had held dear. Two sevendays later, he was downing a glass when he heard an all too familiar keen. Kujoth's mind voice was so faint at that point that K'tran could barely make out his dragon telling him that his best friend D'rav and his blue Dvraeth had just died from the plague. It was too much for K'tran. He was determined to jump /between/, no matter what his brother said. When he was mounted on his dragon he felt a sudden pang of guilt. For some reason, he just couldn't get his brother's angry expression out of his head. In the end, he found that he just couldn't bring himself to do it. Still, he couldn't stand the thought of staying at Telgar anymore. It held too many reminders of those he had last. When Dark Cove Weyr requested transfers, he was one of the first to respond. The next day, K'tran packed his things and left for Dark Cove Weyr.
Personality: K'tran is wise beyond his years, bring forced to grow up too fast because of the deaths of many in his family. He is a serious young man who never makes promises unless he is sure he can keep them. He is very cautious and methodical about things, and he will always look at all angles of a situation before deciding to act. He is generally kind and friendly towards others, always willing to lend a helping hand. He has a bad habit of holding his emotions inside, only revealing them to those he is very close to, such as his dragon. After the death of so many family members, he has become more resigned and accepting, knowing that things will happen in life that are beyond his control. Every now and again he will be hit by a bout of depression, during which time he will become far more quiet and somber than usual. He can be very stubborn when he has his mind made up about something, which may cause him problems down the road. Overall, K'tran is a wise, serious, and cautious young man who is only beginning to recover from the deaths of so many that he held dear.
Pets: None
Hobbies/Skills: K'tran has a fair hand at carving, having been taught to by his dad who was a former woodcrafter. He is also a fairly talented artist, mainly working on paintings of dragons and flits.
Name: Kujoth
Color: Brown
Weyr Impressed: Telgar Weyr
When Impressed: 01.02.4079
Sire/Dam: Bronze Zodrath, Gold Amayath
Wing: High Altitude
Size: 70 L, 140 ws. He is a large brown, as big as a mid-sized bronze.
Appearance: This large sized brown dragon is very sturdy. He is perfectly proportioned and well balanced on every part of his body. His hide is very dark, almost like klah that has been left to steep for hours. The klah brown on his eyeridges darkens just a bit, giving him a rather accented look. Dark traces of an ever deeper klah brown can be seen across his sturdy broad wings. His hide seems to darken even more when he sits in the shade and a dizzying pattern of klah brown can be seen across his neck ridges, drawing attention to them. At the end of each of his feet a set of sharp, slightly curved, hard klah brown talons can be seen. His eyes whirl with a playful intelligence and occasionally with a bit of mischief. His long sinuous tail is a bit thick at the base, although not overly so. Light flecks of a muddy brown color can be seen upon his sides and it then blends in well with the darker colors. This dragon seems to be in prime condition and his hide seems to gleam with good health.
Personality: Kujoth is the complete opposite of his rider. Kujoth is as impulsive as K'tran is careful, acting on instinct rather than reason. He is calm and confidant in his own abilities, although he can be a tad overconfident at times. He is often bold and will speak his mind, without thinking of the consequences afterward. He does pay close attention to what is going on around him however, often alerting his rider to things that K'tran would otherwise have missed. Kujoth likes to show off quite a bit, becoming a bit reckless at times. Kujoth's greatest attribute is probably his endurance; he can take any criticism or bad word with a glint of humor, rather than becoming upset or put out by it. He is ever curious about many aspects of things in life, sometimes sticking his snout where it doesn't belong, which can get him in trouble sometimes. He is also a very reliable dragon, being there for when he is needed and helping out when he can. Another word that may describe Kujoth is optimistic, for he always tries to make the best out of any situation, whether it is good or bad. Overall, Kujoth is an impulsive, confident, and optimistic dragon that can be relied upon when he is need and can endure almost anything that life sees fit to throw at him.
Abilities: Kujoth is an endurance dragon with a lot of staying power. He can last an entire fall without becoming overly tired. Kujoth is very methodical about conserving his energy, using his energy where it counts the most. He has a long and fairly wide flame that can be sustained for several minutes at a time. He is also very good at using thermals and updrafts to his advantage, cutting down on energy that could be used well in a fall.
