Background:Kali grew up in Igen Hold along with the rest of her family. She saw her father rarely and they weren't really close. She was much closer to her mother and used to follow her everywhere when she was younger. Sometimes she would sit quietly and watch her mother work. Her mother didn't mind her watching as long as she didn't cause trouble. Kali surprised her mother one morning by asking if she could help out with some of the minor wounds that people had suffered. Atara agreed and told her daughter that she could help to spread numbweed on some of the wounds if she wanted. Suddenly a young boy about Kali's ran into the room and started yelling that he needed help. Kali was slightly faster than her mother in asking what was wrong. The boy quickly introduced himself as Jorven before holding up two burnt fingers and a thumb for Kali to see. Kali asked him how he burnt them and Jorven told her that he had been help his mom cook a few sweet rolls to give as a present to his sick Aunt when he accidentally tipped the pan over. Not thinking, he had tried to pick it up, only to receive burned fingers for his efforts. Kali was instructed by her mother to look after Jorven since it was only a minor injury. She told Kali to wash her hands in redwort before smearing numbweed on the wounds. Kali did as she was told while her mother went off to attend to a person who suffered from far worse injuries than those that Jorven was dealing with. When she was done, Jorven thanked her and told her that he'd see her around. Jorven was true to his words and they soon became good friends. Her mother then apprenticed her and she began to learn the various ways to treat certain injuries and she was also taught about several different types of herbal remedies. She rarely saw her brother because he was apprenticed to her father and was learning how to live the life of a hold guard. One bright sunny gather day she was out buying bubbly pies when a blue dragon suddenly landed in the courtyard. She ran over to investigate along with several other people. Getting up on a crate, she managed to see above the heads of the other holds. She then saw a figure backed against the courtyard wall, cornered by the blue dragon's head. She saw the dragon's rider leap down from the blue's back and approach the cornered figure. She jumped to another higher crate for a closer look, and she was shocked to see that it was Jorven who was corned against the wall. She wasn't close enough to hear what was being said, but the rider was making a gesture towards his dragon and Jorven was nodding about something. She then saw Jorven turn and head back towards his cothold. She managed to intercept him and ask what had happened, and he only managed to choke out that he had been searched before he headed inside and gathered his stuff. When he came back outside, he waved to Kali and told her that he would see her again after he impressed and became a full rider. Kali warned him not to be so sure but she wished him the best of luck before he left. A few months later, she received the news that her friend had impressed a brown, which she was happy to hear about. A few turns later, she received shocking news when her mother joined her in the infirmary one day and told her that her brother was gone. When she asked her mother where he went, her mother told her that he had been searched by a green. She was overjoyed to hear that news, but she was also a bit envious of her brother. They requested a dragonrider to take them to Igen Weyr to see the hatching, but Kali received quite a surprise when Jorven, now J'ven arrived on his brown Voroth to retrieve them. She was very happy to see him but she was shocked to learn that he was a Wingsecond. She told him that Wingseconds shouldn't be picking up people, but J'ven replied that it wasn't a problem and that he had volunteered. Kali then experienced her first dragonride on the way to Igen Weyr. Once they had arrived, she thanked J'ven before heading off to the galleries with the rest of her family. She then watched the hatching with awe and was overcome with emotion for a while, that is until she saw her brother on the sands. She kept here eyes on him and soon enough she was rewarded with the sight of a blue dragon turning its head to gaze up into her brother's eyes. She had tears in her own eyes when her brother knelt down and hugged the blue before being escorted off the sands. It was a good turn indeed, for a month later her mother told her that she was going to be getting a little sister. Several months later, the entire family, except for her brother who was still a weyrling gathered in the waiting room to wait for her mother to give birth. Several hours later, Kali was able to gaze into the emerald eyes of her new sister Liara. Tings went fairly well for the next few turns. Kali was promoted to Jr. Journeywoman healer, while her best friend J'ven had been promoted to Wingleader of the Sandstorm Wing. She was also surprised to hear that her brother had been tapped into J'ven's wing. The rest of the turn went well for her, until one mid-summer day, disaster struck in the form of the plague. She was contacted by J'ven who told her the horrible news. He explained that her brother had been flying fall with him when he saw that Tajerth seemed to become very sluggish and slow in the air. He had ordered the two down to the dragonhealers, when suddenly Tajerth's wings stopped beating. J'ven had ordered his brown down to try and catch them but they were too far away for him to get there in time. Just before they were about to hit the ground, Tajerth jumped between with his rider. The two didn't return and all the dragons had keened, informing J'ven that T'lev and Tajerth were gone forever. When J'ven asked if she was okay, she replied that she was before mumbling about having to tell her mother the news before she headed off. She didn't go straight to her mother, but headed out of the hold instead. There she cried for a while before he finally returned to give the news to her mother and the rest of the family. Her mother was crushed and so was her father. Her little sister was far too young to understand yet. Kali became depressed after that and she was given time off from her duties as a healer so that she could grieve. She locked herself in her room and refused to eat for several days. One day her mother came in Kali's room to check on her, only to discover her daughter passed out in the bed in a comatose state. At first Atara thought that her daughter had drank herself into a stupor when she didn't find any wine bottles of any sort, she became worried. She tried to wake Kali up, but she didn't respond, even when her mother poured cold water on her face. It was then that Atara came to the conclusion that her daughter was sick with firehead. Kali was soon transported in a wagon drawn by runner to the coast. Atara was friends with the captain of a ship in Half-Circle Sea Hold. He agreed to meet them at the coast where he would then transport Kali to Southern Hold, where she'd hopefully recover quicker. The trip over was uneventful and they arrived without incident at Southern hold, where Kali was then moved from the ship to the infirmary. The healers at southern Hold were used to dealing with firehead victims and they took very good care of Kali. After a few sevendays, she finally woke up and complained that she was hungry. She was kept in the infirmary for a full sevenday to prevent a relapse before she was finally released, her health fully restored. She decided to stay at Southern Hold and help out the healers there. The healer who had looked after her had a brown firelizard. Thanks to the healer, Kali was able to send a message to her parents that she didn't plan on returning since they needed all the help they could get in Southern since there was quite a few firehead victims and not quite enough healers to look after them all. The return letter was written by her mother who approved her decision to stay on and help at Southern Hold. The letter also went on telling her of some very tragic news, her friend J'ven and his brown Voroth had died as a result of the plague. She was heartbroken but this time she didn't let herself get so sunk down in depression. She just pushed it all to the side and concentrated on helping firehead victims recover. She worked in Southern Hold for a full turn until a message came in requesting a few extra healers, which were needed a Dark Cove Hold since a few healers had quit after being unable to save the life of a man they had been close to. She couldn't deny their request and the next day she headed out to Dark Cove Hold. She now resides there as a full time resident and Jr. Journeywoman healer.
