Background: Dralev was born of a union between a trader and a harper. He was the second youngest in the family, born only a turn after his sister Karilla came into the world. He was a happy healthy baby who was constantly causing trouble for his parents. A month after his first turnday, his sister Sivia was born. On his seventh turnday he was given a special present. He was given a black runner colt, which he name Shadow. His childhood was a pretty happy one, in which he often traveled with his father's trading caravan. He learned much in his younger years. His father taught him how to bargain with his marks, and taught him certain tricks of his craft. His mother on the other hand taught him how to sing on tenor and how to play the guitar. He took more to his father's craft than his mother's however. He could sing in a pleasant tenor voice and he wasn't bad with the guitar, but he just wasn't harper material. His sister was a lot worse than him and couldn't even keep the beat. When Dralev was thirteen turns he lost both his parents to a natural disaster. They had been travelling from Point Hold to Dark Cove Hold when they were overtaken by a storm. The storm blew in so fast that they didn't have time to find shelter. Dralev's father told them that if they pressed on, there was a sea hold that they could take shelter at. Sadly, the trading caravan never made it to the sea hold. The trading caravan had passed below a large ridge with several boulders atop of it. The torrential rain loosened the soil around the rocks and the boulders came tumbling down upon the trading caravan. His mother Diliona and his father Talorven were both crushed and buried by a large number of boulders. The same happened to several other people in the caravan. Luckily his two sisters survived. One of the other traders's had slapped the flanks of his sister's runners, sending them into a panic. Dralev's own runner panicked and fled away from the rockslide when it was belted on the flank by several smaller falling rocks. A few other runners bolted as well, following their herd instinct. It took them all several times to calm their runners down enough to stop. When his runner finally tired of running and stopped, he turned the runner around and went back to find the others. When he finally arrived at the ridge, he was greeted by a small band of heart sore people, including his two sisters. He slid off his runner and ran to greet them, only to discover that they were crying. When he asked them what was wrong, they told him that mother and father were dead, buried under a pile of boulders. He almost broke down in tears but he held them back. He had to be strong for his sisters. The storm grew worse and finally one of the traders rallied them together and told them to move on towards the sea hold. As the others turned and left, Dralev stayed behind for a moment and stared at the massive pile of boulders where his parents were buried. Alone in the darkness of the storm, he knelt down beside the boulders and finally let the tears come. He turned and was about to leave when he heard a soft moan. When he looked down, he saw a hand sticking out of a small pile of rocks. He darted forward and grasped the hand and pulled as hard as he could. The next moment, he found that he had pulled out a young boy around his age. The boy was obviously badly injured and had several cuts along the head and arms. Dralev hoisted the boy onto Shadow's back and led the runner by the halter back to the sea hold. When he got there he was greeted by his sisters, who had been worried when he hadn't followed them. He explained that he had found someone still alive and that they boy he had found needed a healer. His sisters then directed him to the healer's hold. It turned out that since the sea hold was so small, it didn't have an infirmary, although there was a healer stationed there. He then rushed the boy to the healer's hold, where the healer then instructed him to lay the boy down near a few of the other inured. The healer then called all the surviving traders around and several of the hold's inhabitants. He told them that there were far too many injured for him to handle alone. He then instructed everyone who was in good health to help with the injured. Dralev found himself working long into the night, smearing wounds with numbweed and putting broken arms and legs in splints. A few sevendays later, the remaining survivors of the trading caravan finally made it back to Point Hold. On the way there, he was surprised when the boy he had saved paid him a visit. The boy told him his name was Jomar and thanked him for saving his life. Dralev just shook his head and told him it wasn't a problem. On the journey back, both Jomar and Dralev talked about those they had lost and they eventually became friends. They found a reception waiting for them when they finally got to Point Hold. Apparently someone had sent word ahead by firelizard. The lord holder of Point Holder himself was waiting to greet them. The lord holder gave them a speech about how sorry he was that those they had lost and went on to tell them that they had all acted bravely in such a terrible situation. Dralev didn't listen to much of it, for he was too consumed by grief to care. He was surprised then to be approached sometime later by the lord holder. The lord holder then thanked him for saving his nephew's life. Dralev was confused for a while, until he realized that he must have been talking about Jomar. He was even more surprised when the lord holder presented him with two firelizard eggs as a gift for saving Jomar. He was surprised at this but accepted them, for he had longed to have a firelizard of his own after listening to his mother's songs about them. A few months later, his firelizard eggs hatched and he found himself with a brown and a green. He named the brown Ryu and the green Jade. His lizards kept his mind off his pain for a while, and Tanak kept him busy by training him in the ways of the hold guard. Two months later he lost his runner Shadow to a feline who had broken into the stables and had cornered the runner in his stall. The feline had apparently bitten the runner's throat and then dragged it some distance from the stables before eating it. It had done it during the evening, so the watch wher hadn't sensed it. Dralev was saddened by his runner's death, for he had known the runner since he was seven turns old. Still, it was nothing compared to losing his parents. Over the next two turns, he tried to pick up the pieces of his life. During those two turns, he had become adept at wielding a sword and he was also well-versed in strategy and tactics. Meanwhile, his sister Sivia had become adept at healing, so adept that she was apprenticed to Kizana, who was the Master Healer at Ista Hold. He sent his brown firelizard Ryu to Ista Hold with a message for his sister to see how she was doing. Ryu came back with a message from his sister that she was very happy and that she was very happy at Ista and that she wasn't planning on coming back. He replied with another message, telling her that he was happy for her and that he would come and visit her someday when she was older. He was fifteen turns old when he saw his first dragon up close. He had often seen dragons flying overhead, but he was astonished when a blue landed in the courtyard. He headed down to the courtyard, just in time to see the blue turn and single out one person from the crowd that had come to see the blue. He realized that the person was his sister Karilla. Suddenly he saw his sister turn and walk away from the blue, heading in his direction. She stopped long enough to tell him she had just been searched before heading off to their cothold and gathering her things. She then emerged with her stuff and said goodbye to him before climbing up on the dragon's back with some help from the blue's rider. The blue then took off into the air and circled for a few moments before disappearing /between/. Dralev was thrilled for his sister, because he knew that she had wanted to be a dragonrider for a long time. Their mother's ballads about dragons had really had an effect on his sister. A few months later he attended the hatching. He watched in awe as a green snuck up behind his sister and almost knocked her down. Karilla then knelt down and wrapped her arms around the dragon and at that point, Dralev knew impression had been made. He also knew at that moment that he wanted to be a dragonrider as well. Two more turns passed when a blue dragon suddenly landed in the courtyard. Dralev held his breath and hoped that the dragon was on search. He ran out to the courtyard to meet the blue. He was surprised then to hear the dragonrider asking if any of them was Dralev. He quickly stepped out of the crowd and told the dragonrider that he was Dralev. He was surprised to see that the dragonrider looked quite grave. The dragonrider told him that he had been a close friend of his sister Karilla and that he felt he could do her a courtesy and deliver the new personally. When Dralev asked just what the news was, the dragonrider told him in a somber tone that his sister had died as a result of the plague. Dralev was devastated, for he had just put the pieces of his life back together, but now they had broken again. He thanked the dragonrider for coming all the way before turning and heading back towards his cothold. When he got inside he wrote his sister Sivia a message about Karilla's death and then sent it by firelizard. The return message he got was not what he expected. The return message was not from his sister Sivia at all. It was from the Master Healer at Ista Hold. The healer wrote him; telling him that she was sorry for his loss but that his sister Sivia was in danger of dying from firehead and that if he wanted to see her, then he had better get to Ista. He asked the Lord Holder to get him a dragonrider to take him to Ista, since it would be too late for his sister if he went by ship. The Lord Holder agreed and within a few minutes after sending a request to Southern Weyr by firelizard, there was a green dragon and her rider waiting for him in the courtyard. He mounted the dragon without trouble and within moments they were off the ground. It was his first dragonride but he didn't have time to enjoy it, for his mind was on his sister and nothing else. The next thing he knew, he felt the numbing bite of /between/ before they arrived at Ista Hold. He thanked the dragon and her rider before sliding off and running towards the infirmary once they had landed. Luckily he found his sister still alive but in a coma. He was given lodging in one of the guest holds, while he held a vigil for his sister. It was two long sevendays before she finally woke up. He refrained from telling Sivia about Karilla's death until after she was better. When he finally did, she was heartbroken and cried for several hours. Dralev decided to stay at Ista Hold with his sister and help her out, for she was taking her death even worse than he was. One day he was out in the courtyard talking to a hold guard when suddenly a blue landed right in front of them, trapping him in a corner between two buildings. The blue's rider then stepped down and asked him if he'd be willing to stand for a clutch at Ista Weyr. He remembered his sister's death and was hesitant at first, but in the end he finally accepted. Several months later he found himself waiting nervously on the sands along with many other candidates. Soon the first of the eggs began to crack and then everything passed in a flurry. Several dragonets broke from their eggs and made their choices at once, while others took longer to pick and choose. Dralev saw a bronze come his way and was hopeful, but it swerved and chose the candidate next to him. Just when he was about to give up hope of impressing, a midnight blue dragon butted against his legs to catch his attention before looking up into his eyes. It was at that moment that D'lev's life changed forever. During the next two turns, his dragon grew from a healthy dragonet to a full-grown dragon, if a bit small for a blue. He was tapped into the Dark Tide wing and did his best doing the duties of a wingrider. It was his 20th turn when he first discovered Dyloth's ability to search. Ista's gold had laid a clutch of 23 eggs and several searchriders were needed. Sadly, a few of the Weyrs searchriders had died of the plague and the weyr was short a few searchriders in number. There were only four in the entire weyr that showed the ability. A few blues and greens were selected by the current searchriders to see if their dragons had the ability. D'lev was one of them and he ended up being paired with searchrider F'lov and blue Fevanth. They went /between/ to Ista Hold to search for potential candidates. F'lov instructed him to let Dyloth follow his instincts and if he had any searching ability he'd show it by picking out a certain person. As soon as a crowd appeared around the two dragons, Dyloth swung his head about and cut off a young healer from the rest of the crowd. The healer looked to be about seventeen turns and had golden blonde hair and green eyes. Dyloth insisted to D'lev that she was the one he wanted. D'lev jumped off and talked to the girl and asked her to stand for the clutch at Ista. She agreed and he gave her time to go get her things. He then helped her up onto Dyloth's back before turning to look for F'lov. He then saw that Fevanth had also found a candidate. A young harper from the looks of it. Both dragons lifted off and went /between/ back to Ista Weyr. A few months later, D'lev heard from F'lov that the girl that Dyloth had searched out had impressed a gold. He couldn't believe it, but it seemed that his Dyloth had the ability to sense who would make a good rider and who wouldn't. A full turn later, he received word that Dark Cove Weyr was looking for searchriders and was far more in need of them than Ista was. He had considered Ista has home for several turns, but he knew that he was needed so he went to the Weyrleader and requested a transfer and it was granted. A few days later, he packed his few belongings and mounted Dyloth. Dyloth took off into the air and jumped /between/ to Dark Cove Weyr.

Name: Dyloth
Color: Blue
Weyr Impressed: Ista Weyr
When Impressed: 03.04.4081
Sire/Dam: n/a
Wing: Thessaly
Size: ?
Appearance: Dark hues of midnight blue slowly creep up the narrow muzzle of this small dragon. The dark hues of midnight blue soon sweep up from his muzzle to his eyeridges, swallowing them into inky darkness. Shadowed underneath his midnight blue eyeridges are two bright eyes that change colors to reflect on his moods. Just underneath his eyes the hide darkens to a deeper shade of midnight blue, almost bordering on the color of black. This has had the effect of making him seem to be wearing a mask, when it is simply the combination of darkness of his eyeridges and the midnight blue hues beneath his eyes. Tendrils of midnight blue reach out from his eyeridges to encompass the back of his head, obstructed by nothing but faint streaks of navy blue. His neck shimmers with glossy midnight blue shadows as his entire neck is plunged into the darkest of shadows. Yet despite the dark midnight blues upon his neck light can still be seen. Towards the back of his neck are several starlight blue speckles, contrasting deeply with the shadows of midnight blue around them. Rising up from the back of his neck are several midnight blue neck ridges. These neck ridges are also touched by many tiny speckles of starlight blue, beacons of light against darkness. At the base of his neck the starlight blue speckles increase in number before spreading across his well-toned shoulders in tightly-knit patterns. Midnight blues hues envelop the top of his front legs in hazy bands of color, only to be intercepted by slightly lighter navy blue hues further down upon his legs. His front feet are completely enfolded in shrouds of dark midnight blue and even his two sets of talons are swallowed in darkness. The tops of his long narrow wings are a contrast of light and dark. Eternal dark shadows of midnight blue stretch across the top of his wings. This darkness is interrupted by the soft glow of starlight blue speckles that seem to expand over the darkness of his wings. The underneath of his wings are dull in contrast to the top, touched only by a solid sheen of navy blue. Stark shades of midnight blue spread across his slim belly before reaching up to creep across his sides. Starlight blue streaks race across his sides, seemingly trying to defy the midnight blue shades that threaten to swallow it. His haunches are touched by dark waves of midnight blue covered over slightly by light traces of starlight blue streaks. Hazy shades of midnight blue slowly encircle his back legs, giving little room for other color except for the navy blue upon his back feet and talons. Last but not least is his long narrow tail which is covered in dark glossy shades of midnight blue that lighten up to a navy blue as they crash against the spade of his tail.
Personality: Dyloth is a very perceptive dragon who is always aware of the emotions of others. He picks up on emotions easily and he is always directly affected by them. He is a very calm and thoughtful dragon that always thinks things through before acting. He is very clever and open-minded and unlike his rider, he holds nothing back, especially his feelings. He won't hesitate to let others know his opinion. He can be very stubborn in some ways and if he has his mind made up on something, it's almost impossible to change it. He is very clever and he is often coming up with ideas that his rider would never have thought of. He tends to be very protective of his rider and won't allow anyone to speak ill of him. He is always concerned with the welfare of others and he tends to worry about problems that are not his own. He tends to be a bit of a daredevil and enjoys danger, which can really get him in trouble. He is confident of his own abilities and of hid rider's. Sometimes he has a bad habit of pushing himself past his limits, especially during threadfall. He will sometimes try to help out others if he thinks they need it and he is always loyal to those that he considers his friends. Overall, he is a perceptive and clever young dragon that puts the concerns of others over his own.
Abilities: Dyloth is very fast in the air and has good maneuverability. He is also very perceptive of the emotions of others and he has a very good talent for picking out potential candidates.
Relationships: Dyloth is very amiable with other dragons and does not mind long conversations. He seems to enjoy the company of others. He is very shy in the presence of golds.
