Vampires the Truths
Copyright 2001

I
have recently acquired an interest for Vampires, principally my main interest in the genre stems from my interest in Horror Movies, if your anything like me, you will wonder what if any truths lay in the legend of the Vampire. Curious? well keep reading.

The intention is not to shock or scare anyone but to inform and educate the average person who may be unaware that there are real living, breathing Vampires Among us. Which incidentally is also the title of my favorite Vampire Website. Anyway at the least I hope you find this interesting and appreciate the research and effort.

A
s is the case with most legends there is no historical date of origin, we can however trace this legend back to Ancient times, evidence of the vampire tale can be found with the Chaldeans in Mesopotamia, the Tigris and the Euphrates rivers, and with many of the Assyrian writings on clay or stone tablets.

Lilith was a possible vampire from the ancient Hebrew Bible and its interpretations. Lilith was a legendary monster who roamed at night taking on the appearance of an owl whom would hunt, seeking to kill newborn children and pregnant women.

References to Vampires can be found among the ancient civilizations of the Mediterranean such as Egypt, Greece and Rome. Vampire legends can be found in many lands, and some believe this indicates that the vampire story developed independently and such an independently occurring Legend gives credance to the entire story.

I
n recent years it has been theorized that perhaps some people who were wrongly accused of vampirism may have actually suffered from a medical disorder known today as porphyria. The bodies of people with this condition cannot produce the correct amount of red blood called heme. Supposedly this disorder could produce symptoms which ignorant people might have concluded to be a case of vampirism. People with this disease do not become vampires, the porphyria theory is merely an attempt to explain the irrational beliefs of the ignorant.

During my Research the most Stupidest belief which people associated to vampires was the Black Death of the Middle Ages which swept Europe. Idiotic methods were used to locate graves of alleged vampires. A virgin was placed naked on a horse and paraded through a graveyard. If the horse decided not to walk over a certain grave this was assumed to be the grave of a vampire. An was Destroyed as a result and the body made "safe".

H
ere is a link to my Favorite Vampiric Website, and believe me I have visited many of them. I like this one in particular, because unlike most it does not ram Vampirism down your throat, but puts the facts across in an interesting and entertaining way.
