Darcey's Aspen Journal 2002 [cont'd]
The loveliest, melodious music I have ever heard is the that of Sr. JD. Nothing can or will ever change that. I am quite envious of the high notes he hit since I am not able to do so. I only get a cracked voice when I try to sing soprano. So I will settle for being a tenor/alto. That is one gift from GOD that I am very thankful for.

Dear Journal,

5:30 a.m.  We were all at the bus stop in the downtown area of York, Pa., which is always noisy no matter the time. The coats I packed are not needed yet. It was not cold at all. People started to go to work and the day began. The sun was not up yet and I wrote in my journal by the streetlight.
6:00 a.m.  The bus came and we got on. The 1st transfer was at the next stop.
7:45 a.m.  We had a 1/2 hour rest stop then on to a new bus. Everyone got coffee save for me. Mum and I got breakfast sandwiches while I got a Mt. Dew.
8:15 a.m.  Back on the bus and I managed to spill some soda because I lost the cover. Oops! Floss spilled coffee on her leg. Nope, not good.
11:40 a.m.  Mum and Meg got BLTs while I got more soda. Floss and I decided to eat the snacks from our goody bags.
12:30 p.m.  We were back on the bus and finally out of Penn State which is a very mountainous state. ["...Tear down the mountains to bring in a couple more..." "If you lead me, I will follow anywhere that you go.." I wish we were there already. Oh yes I do!
Once in a while we saw some strip malls. Different towns, but same stores as back home. Earlier we stopped in this one horse town. The bus depot was a shack at the end of a tiny road. We soon found out that the bus had to be backed up or we would have been stuck.

4:55 p.m.  Columbus, Ohio. We had a rest stop for about an hour. Mum and I had cheeseburgers and fries for dinner.
6:00 p.m.  Back on the road and we tried to sleep. Everytime we would get to sleep the driver had to make some annoucements and wake us up. Oh bother!

7:50 a.m.  Dayton, Ohio. Then on to St. Louis for another transfer stop and only 20 minutes to get our luggage and get ready for boarding.
At the beginning of this trip we all had seperate seats from each other, then as we had people get off, we switched until we were together; me and mum, Meg and Floss.
We made the transfer and people started to get settled down and go to sleep. I was wide awake and began reading my favorite book, "Two Loves For Jenny" by Sandy Miller. It is all about a set of teenagers and their goings on. The book came out in '82 and I still enjoy reading it.
Yesterday we saw 6 windmills in a row. Perhaps they power a cement plant below. We came into Kansas and I have seen all the wheatfields I can stand.
["Had an uncle named Matthew,...and gold is just the Kansas City wheatfields.."]

I saw a barn owl sitting on a fence during midday. I thought how odd. Mum saw some cows 1/2 sitting 1/2 standing. She said as she laughed, "50% chance of rain." LOL "Marvelous Toy" played on my discman. Mum said that the trees should be planted in straight rows, not so sporadic. We might have seen a crop circle or two by now, but we did not 'though I did see mud in a large circle. I doubt if that counts.
7:20 p.m.  Limon, Colorado. We were all so glad to be out of Kansas. [Nothing against the state, we just did not see much.]
9:05 p.m. Denver, Colorado. In the heart of downtown the city was all lit up. Next to a liquor store we say a small storefront saying church. Odd they should be next to each other. This was our last trasfer 'till our final destination. We were so glad of that. The bus terminal in Denver has very strict rules. Our luggage was passed onto the next bus by employees as they did not want people in their luggage. Before boarding, each person was wanded and their carry ons searched. A loose bullet was found and given to a security guy who said he did not know what to do with it.
10:05 p.m.  On our way to Glenwood Springs. We had been traveling for a long time. We were beginning to realize where we were and headed to. The excitement started to build.
1:40 a.m.  We got off the bus, collected our luggage , lo and behold there was Hans Jo, Trudy and Lynette. It was nice of them to agree to meet us at that unseeming hour, but we were very glad they did.
3:00 a.m.  We arrived at the LimeLite, our place of temporary stay until the next day. It looked as though we had invaded Lynette's room with so many suitcases all around. Mum and Lynette shared one bed. Floss and Meg shared the other while I slept on the floor in my sleeping bag, but we were too keyed up to sleep right away.
