From her OBC years:

 

Daphne Rubin-Vega (Mimi) recieved nominations for the 1996 Tony and Drama Desk awards for Best Actress in a Musical, as well as a 1996 Theater World Award for her performance in Rent. Ms. Rubin-Vega performed in the Studio and Off-Broadway productions of Rent (Obie Award) at New York Theater Workshop and played Cinda in Randy Newman's Faust at La Jolla Playhouse. Until recently Daphne was writing songs for an album and single releases on the Maxi Label. Her former "real" job as a sculptors model and assistant included scrubbing floors and doing laundry.

Daphne Rubin-Vega (Mimi) created the role of Mimi in the original workshop and Broadway productions for which she earned Tony and Drama Desk nominations for Best Actress and received the Theater World Award. Her debut album, on Mercury Records, will be released this year. She co-starred with Matt Dillon and Kevin Bacon in the 1998 Columbia Pitures/Mandalay Entertainment motion picture "Wild Things" and will be seen along with Robert DeNiro in the new Joel Schumacher film, "Flawless", due out later this year.
