DE NIRO DOES SHORTS TAKE: Want to get tough guy Robert De Niro to crack a smile? Play with his underwear.

It worked for actress Daphne Rubin-Vega during a love scene in "Flawless." De Niro, who plays a recovering stroke victim in the upcoming movie, was delivering his dialogue on camera. Rubin-Vega, who plays his girlfriend, was listening to him off-camera.

"I was off-screen, so I could do anything I want," she said. So, just to get a reaction out of him, she started "sniffing his underwear. Then I put his underwear on my head."

She quickly added, "It was actually prop underwear. But you could say it was Robert De Niro's underwear." And, yes, it reduced the Raging Bull to laughter.
