**New!** Pictures from my day!!
I finally go to met Daphne!! Yay for
birthdays! :) I can't even describe to anyone who absolutely wonderful it
was! But I'll try, with a warning that
this'll be long, though I'll try to keep it short… ;)
Okay, so I had been begging my
parents to let me go to Rocky Horror since I heard Daphne was going to be in it
(way back many moons ago, lemme tell ya), and I had tried everything I could
and it still didn't work… so I had almost given up hope. My birthday was the 19th of June,
and I hadn't even asked to go see it, I was so convinced it wouldn't happen...
so imagine how surprised I was to get tickets to it for my birthday!! The tickets were for the next day, the 20th,
and I was sooo excited!
So, the next day I got awake at 4:45
AM (Such sacrifices for Daphne…) and my mom and I caught a train to New
York. I've only been on a train once
before in my life, and I love trains, so even this was excited, hee hee! Anyway, we got to New York, and I had heard
that my best bet was probably to see Daphne before the show instead of after,
since she doesn't come out a lot. So I
got to the theatre at about 12:00 and I picked up our tickets, and then my mom
and I hung out for a while… My mom did convince me to get lunch though, so we
went over to the Stardust, which was AWESOME and I recommend to anyone. The waiters were so adorable, they sang!,
and the food was great too!
Anyway, after a quick lunch, we ran
back over to the theatre and waited… Oh yeah, understudies for that performance
were: Kristen Lee Kelly as Janet, which I was soo happy, cuz I love Alice, but
I love Kristen, and John Jeffrey Martin was going on as Riff-Raff …
:) I was so glad Daphne didn't have an
understudy!
So at any rate, we waited in the
theatre lobby and talked to some people, made some new Rocky friends, and saw
some cast members come in (I saw Lea,
Kristen, Aiko, Tom, and a bunch of other phantoms walk in :). I was so scared I had missed Daphne, especially
since it was getting closer to 1:30 (when the whole cast has to be there), and
I still hadn't seen her…
But, soon, I looked up and there was
Daphne standing at the ticket seller booth, talking to someone. I hadn't even seen her come in! OMG, I almost had a heart attack… :) I told my mom, and my mom was like "Are
you sure that's here?" And I
thought I had trained my parents better then that.. ::shakes head:: Anyway, I walked over with my program and a
pen and waited for her to finish talking before asking for an autograph. She was as nice as she could possibly
have been. I can't stress that
enough, she was just as nice as could possibly be… :) Anyhow, she asked my name, and (here's the embarrassing part…) I
was trying not to cry, so it was all I could do to say "Mary" (my
name!). My mom kicked in, and said,
"She's one of you biggest fans, you're the whole reason we're here, she
has a webpage for you…" And so
Daphne looks up from signing and said, "Oh yeah, Mary, I know
you!" I swear, I nearly fainted or
something... :) Anyway, she finished
signing, and gave me a hug. She wished
me a happy birthday (since my mom told her it was my birthday present, I was
still trying not to cry and couldn't talk!) and then my mom asked if she could
get a picture. Daphne made this face
like she wanted to, but said, "I really can't, I'm running so late,
BUT" and she told me where to meet her after the show so I could get a
picture! Awesome! So then she said good-bye, and kissed me on
the cheek. :) Aww! I went back to my
window-ledge-seat and I was crying and shaking, how embarrassing, everyone was
staring. :)
So, once I had calmed down a little
bit, I opened my program to see that Daphne had written:
"Mary -
What a pleasure to finally meet you -
Love & peace
Daphne"
How nice is that??
After that, I waited for when we
could go downstairs to the actual theatre and we got ready for the show… and it
ROCKED! Daphne was sooo good! She was just breathtaking! Okay, I am going to write my own
review of the show later, but for now this is just about meeting Daphne, so
I'll talk more about the show later. :)
Anyway, after the show, my mom and I
waited where Daphne told us to wait for her (though actually we started waiting
in the wrong place – but we did find the right place in time!) and when she
came out, she was just as nice as she had been before, if not nicer. She came right over to me to get the
pictures, and my mom took a bunch!
Daphne signed the Rocky Horror poster I had bought with:
"Mary –
Love you
Daphne"
(Though its kinda hard to see cuz she
had a red marker and the poster's black... you can see wheat she wrote on the
microphone though :)
After that she talked about her
concert, and told me I should come cuz "it will be fun!" (hee hee, isn't that cute?? And to think my mom still isn't sure
if she's going to let me go… ::sigh:: :).
She also joked about how I was getting old and moving up in the years (I
had just turned 14 the day before :).
Soon I had to leave, and she wished me and my mom safe travels back…
So I was still in shock at this
point, but I managed to go back up to the lobby and see Aiko, Jarrod (who had
his dog and was soo nice!), John Jeffrey Martin, James Stovall, and Kristen Lee
Kelly… Might I just add, really quickly that I love Kristen, she's
awesome! ;) I got to talk a little bit about Rent with her, and she was so
cute and funny!
Oh yeah, I also saw two guys who were
gave me and my mom flyers advertising Daphne's concerts at The Cutting Room….
They were nice too! :) I know one is in her band, cuz I saw him in
a picture of the band, and so that was awesome… Anyway, I asked them if you had
to be 21 to get in and they said they didn't know, but that I should call the
Cutting Room… so I'm going to do that soon... :)
So that was my day… wasn't
amazing?? I still can't believe it
happened…!
** Thanks sooo much to Daphne for making my birthday AMAZING and
for being so sweet and nice… means a lot to me… :) **
