11.5% of RP households affected by hunger-survey
July 14, 2002,
Today

AT LEAST 11.5% of households throughout the country experienced hunger at least once in the first quarter of 2002, according to the most recent survey pf the Social Weather Stations (SWS).

The 11.5%, the SWS said, represents an equivalent of 1.8 million households, most of them in Mindanao.

The report was based on the Second Quarter Social Weather Survey, taken from May 17 to June 13 among 1,200 representative households.

The survey indicated that 3.1% (a micro-representation of 5 million households) often or always experienced severe hunger during the first quarter of 2002.

At least 8.4% of the respondents, or 1.3 million households, experienced moderate hunger at least once or only a few times.

(The percentages do not square with the number of households. Either SWS or Today will have to explain that. ACA).
