The Primogen
Worthy Godservants to rise to the rank of Primogen find themselves the father-figures to the two lower ranks.  They watch over the flock, like shepherds of the faith, and see to matters concerning them.  It is to the Primogen that the Avatars look when both Supplicants and Godservants seek advancement, as their unique position of watcher gives them great insight as to the talents of these eager hopefuls.  Duties of the Primogen, on top of those common to all ranks (see Godservant) are:

1. Grouping with any and all Godservants and Supplicants to learn more of their unique abilities and personalities.  The Primogen above all sees everyone as an individual, and knows the value of a fresh or differing view.  This grouping not only leads the lower ranks to greater skill and experience, but enriches the life of the Primogen, and makes him or her far more knowledgeable about those within the guild.  Primogen's are often called Father for this reason, and are looked to when disputes arise between guildmembers simply because they know more of those involved than many others.

2. Maintaining the health and morale of these, and other, guild members.  Just like a good shepherd, the Primogen sees to his flock and staves off disease, malaise, and hardships to keep his charges strong.  This is also true out in the Realmwars, where Primogens are seen as low level military officers leading the Godservants in glorious charge.  It may help if the Primogen takes an interest in their charges' deities himself, for much of relating to those you care for involves around sharing common ground.

Primogens provide a crucial service as internal caretakers of the guild, and are apreciated as such.  But should the Primogen serve well in his position, and then choose to turn his efforts outward, to things affecting the guild itself, he may follow the path of advancement to Faith's Defender, using these guidelines:

1.  Providing service to the guild for a time as a Primogen both dutifully and creatively is seen as excellent grounds for advancement.  In the case of the Primogen, the Advocate actually chooses them, and may only come from the rank of Faith's Defender.  In other words, should the Primogen express a desire to advance past his rank, one of the Faith's Defenders must choose to act as Advocate for the hopeful.  This is the only case in rank advancement where finding an Advocate is a mutual process.

2.  A Primogen wishing to gain his next rank must also go out for his first time and recruit one from outside the guild into the position of Supplicant.  Since a major duty of a Faith's Defender is to do just that, it is seen as a measure of the Primogen's will to spread the word of the gods and the guild outside its boundaries, rather than nuturing the faith within.  There is no requirement as to what season, rank, class, or sex the new recruit must be, only that they are converted by the roleplaying of the Pariah.

3.  Once the Primogen has been chosen by an Advocate and recruited a new member into the fold, he is then ready to sit in at the Council of Avatars.  The leaving of rank from Primogen to Faith's Defender is not taken lightly, as the Avatars see great value in those who tend to the flock from within.  But should the Primogen show genuine desire to advance, there is little to be judged, and the proclamation that the Primogen has gained the rank of Faith's Defender will follow shortly after.

It should be noted that when a guild member first attains his rank as Primogen, the guild will provide him or her with a cloak or shield bearing the guild's emblem.  It is possible before this rank to purchase one of your own, but at this point it is given to the Primogen out of gratitude for the services they will be providing.
Also, Primogen's may be sought for advice by any member of the guild because of the Primogen's position as being a wise caretaker.  Evil characters who proceed through the rank of Primogen (normally to grow further in the guild, they rarely stay in this rank) tend to gravitate to those of similar alignment, but still serve as caretakers to a point.  They offer advice and opinion on the guild's members to those who ask, but usually focus on the ability and/or capacity for evil within the character in question.
