Lower Manhattan Loop
Esplanade to Battery Park
Maps, Lower Manhattan Loop
Enjoy the WFC Plaza, the yachts, sail boats, fountains.  Follow the Esplanade south, past the Policemen's 9/11 memorial, along the Hudson River.
The Esplanade is for bicyclers, rollerbladers, joggers and walkers.  You'll notice two paths, one reserved more for pedestrians.
Art-On-The-Go-Go
As you meander, you'll pass several pieces of outdoor art.

Ned Smyth's The Upper Room, 1987, concrete aggregate, inlaid with mosaic tiles.  A modern day rendition of an Egyptian temple, with chessboards and stools that bring it back into the utilitarian realm.
Richard Artschwager's Sitting/Stance, 1988.
SOUTH COVE collaboration: Mary Miss (evironmental artist), Stanton Eckstut (architect), Susan Child (landscape architect), 1988.
Notice the shape of the Esplanade as it turns inward and outward; the rock formations; the flowers, grasses, trumpet vines; the pilings, often topped by a seagull, next to the pier-like area with the blue lanterns.

....yep, that 's the Statue of Liberty in the distance!

Hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed creating it for you!
