The laptop computer was invented by Adam Osborne in 1981. It was called the "Osborne 1" and cost $1795. It came bundled with $1500 worth of programs. It had a tiny computer screen built into it. A laptop is a computer that can be folded up and carried around. It was invented by taking computer technology from that time and scaling it down to make a smaller, more portable computer, to aid in ease of use and portability.

In the 1970s, Alan Kay, then a postgraduate student at Utah, developed the idea of Dynabook - a portable interactive personal computer, as accessible as a book. He described it back then in detail, including features such as a flat panel display and wireless communications. The Dynabook idea was the precursor to our modern-day notebooks and PDAs. There was some heated discussions at first about who was the creator of the first PDA. Personally, I do not see the need to know the creator of the first PDA. Be it Apple, Amstrad, Psion or 3Com. It will not change the future of PDAs, which is one of prosperity.

Cellular: A type of wireless communication that is most familiar to mobile phones users. It's called 'cellular' because the system uses many base stations to divide a service area into multiple 'cells'. Cellular calls are transferred from base station to base station as a user travels from cell to cell. The basic concept of cellular phones began in 1947, when researchers looked at crude mobile (car) phones and realized that by using small cells (range of service area) with frequency reuse they could increase the traffic capacity of mobile phones substantially. However at that time, the technology to do so was nonexistent. But with the increasing demand for mobiles, and the introduction of new technology, the production of a "Cellular Phone" soon became a reality and cellular phones became common within the space of a few years.
