Post race refreshments were exceptionally good at the Wild Race 5K. Just go up to the bar and grab a nice cold one!

Wild Race 5K: Saturday night July 22...Thomas Cason won it in 15:32. Rich (Rocky) Falcone was 2nd in 15:40 and Jamey Yon cruised in 3rd with 16:02. Jamey was just doing a little tempo to prep for the Lake Placid Ironman. Jennifer Campbell came down from Chapel Hill to win in 17:45. Sabrina Martin wasn't far behind. No pictures of this race. Blame it on

RK Bill, he had other things to do that day. I think he was frantically downloading Napster music files to get in as much free music as he could before the courts slam the door and shut it down. You see RK Bill loves music. He loves music more than he loves running. I got some bad news about John Walton when I was at this race...he has a stress fracture. He didn't run in the Wild Race. I haven't spoken to him, but I'm sure he's disappointed. He was setting a PR every time he raced! He'll be back though.

The Wild Red Ale was really good. Thanks Rock Bottom. The awards were definitely different. It looks like a book bag. Ideal for teachers to carry around their stuff. After a few beers, I was proud to display it!

I'm sure everyone has heard about the new running store opening up in Charlotte on August 1st. The Charlotte Running Company is owned by Scott Dvorak and Eric Hichman You can visit their web site (Scott is the webmaster of course) at Charlotterunning.com Cindy Ostle is the store manager. The store is right beside the Tyber Creek Pub. I've never been there, but I've always liked the idea of a running store next door to a pub. That's one of those win-win situations. We'll see though. Of course, everyone is talking about how this new store is going to impact Larry Frederick over at Run For Your Life. Charlotte is growing, but is it big enough for two major running stores within two miles of each other? We'll see. The rumor is that Larry wants to open a store up in Asheville. Oh my goodness.

The Strictly Running store in Columbia is another link that you should stay in touch with. Ben Hovis is still on their elite team. I wonder how long that will last once he starts working at The Charlotte Running Company??

One of the best sources of running info is the Herbster Track & Field site at http://www.xctrack.com/ Greg Hipp is the web master and he's doing a great job. Definitely needs a bookmark folks.

As long as we're talking about good T&F sites, here's another one: http://www.trackwire.com/ Bookmarks are easy so slide this one in there as well.

Well Robbie Smith was seen running at McAlpine the other day. It's been 2 months now since he got married. That's more than enough time to stabilize and get back in gear again. He's up a few pounds, but he's still the same ol' Robbie. Bouncing around like Tigger swatting branches on trees. It's good to see him back! It won't take much for him to get fit again. He's one of those naturally talented guys that can't understand why everyone else has to train their butts off to run a decent 5K. Congrats Robbo...now pick a race and join in the fun.
Suzy is always exciting to watch. She ran 4:01.81 in the 1500m final at the Olympic Trials. Impressive. The garden path. Stacy looking good on the way down from 15ft02.75in...new world record. Matthews 5K starting line.

Time to go but...has anyone noticed that the masters guys are really cleaning up in the OVERALL division for the Grand Prix Series? Steve Shonts is on top, John Zizzi is 4th, Dan Hyde is 13th, and John Walton is 17th. The youngster Ben Hovis is further...much further...down the list at 19th (no chance Ben...you're toast!)
