The Next Day

Lying in bed, I find myself tossing and turning.
I decide the only thing to do is to get up and
start the day. I walk downstairs, as quietly as,
I can, but still manage to step on one of my dogs
toys. It lets out a loud squeak, but luckily no
one wakes because of it. I glance at the clock
in the dining room and see that it's now going
on 8 am. 'Not much sleep' I think to myself.

I proceed into the bathroom to freshen up. The
water on my face feels great! After leaving the
bathroom, I head into the kitchen to get the
cordless phone. I take it outside, so not to
disturb anyone. First, I call my 2 lady friends
that live down the street from us. I tell them
the news, so they can get a move on to my house.
Next, I call my best friend, Melissa. It takes
a little bit to convince her the story is not
bull, but she gets moving nevertheless. Instead
of having her come to my house, I have her
gather her people at her own house. I tell her
to await my call, then she'll drive to my house.
She gathers fourteen of her relatives together.

I was just about to call yet another person,
when the phone rang. It is my friend, Ginger.
I forgot she is going to be down in my area for
her vacation. I quickly tell her the directions
to my house and hang up the phone. My next call
is a very important one to make. It is to my
brother and his family. He is at work, so I talk
to my sister-in-law. She knows it is a serious
thing with the smaller meteors, but can't
believe the larger one is coming. I was just
about to go through the story again, when my
mother stepped out onto the porch. I let her
tell the story and this time she gets the
seriousness of it. Mother says she will gather
her crew and wait for our arrival. There will
be twelve coming in that group.

My next call goes out to the state of Texas.
First, I call Lori and her family. Second, I
call Laura and her family. I have it arranged
where Laura will meet Lori & they will drive
in together to my house. Now for the last
call of today. It goes to my cousin Pat and
her family. I have them come to my house.
Boy! Will I have a housefull.

Today has been one of the most hectic days
of my life. It has been spent mostly on the
phone. The rest of my guest have either been:
watching TV, walking outside, or taking care
of their animals. It is now 3pm and my house
is quite full with people and pets. There is:

My cousin Pat, her husband and two daughters.
My husband, me and our two friends *smile*
My mother, father, and my mom's two friends.
Trinette and her husband.
Ginger, her husband and their two sons.

Soon there will also be:
Lori, her husband, and their 3 kids.
Plus, Laura and her husband.
Not to mention all of my guest's pets.

10 P.M.

With all my guest finally at my home, we
sit down to have our coffee. The news is
on & is telling us more about the meteors.

"Today on the news we bring you more on
the story of the meteors. Here's Mark:

"Thanks, Bill. Even tho we have told
you it would be three days for the
smaller meteors to touch down, I'm
sorry to say that four have already
touched down. In: Japan, China,
India & Russia. No reports of deaths
at this moment, but there is quite
a lot of destruction. Back to you."

"Thanks, Mark. More on this at Midnite."

I race off for a brief moment to answer
the phone. It's Michael on the other end.

"Man am I glad to hear from you finally."

"Sorry it took so long, Deb, but I was
talking to my father about the plans."

"Okay, I forgive you this time, so what
is up with the meteors that you can see."

"Well, they are touching down early. Have
you gotten your people together, yet?"

"Yes, Melissa is waiting for my call and
my brother is gathering his bunch. I only
have to call the ones that live far away."

"I would do it early tomorrow. So, they
don't get shot down from the sky. You know?"

"Well, some can drive in, so that will be
good. Don't worry I'll take care of it," I say.

"Okay. I'll call early to let you know what
is up. Okay?," he says hastily.

"No problem. Good Nite."

He hangs up before I can get a response
from him. I go tell the news to the others.
Soon after, we all turn in for the night.

The BIG Day: 6AM

I was woken from my slumber by the sound of
people all chattering at once. I arose from
my bed and proceeded to get dressed. I
stumbled down the stairs to the livingroom.
There infront of the TV, were all my guests.
They were pointing and shouting at something.

"What in the world is going on, you guys?"

My mother grabbed my arm and sat me down on
the sofa. There on the news, were even more
accounts of meteors crashing to earth. Seven
hit down during the night. They were in:
Spain, London, Norway, Algeria, Libya, and
France. With all of us glued to the news,
we never heard the phone ringing. Finally,
I jumped up to answer it. It was Michael.

"Hello," I say.

"Hey darlin," he says quite gloomy.

"What's wrong, Michael. You are scaring me!"

"You need to be, babe. It's time. You have
to get to Mobile. Call me when you reach a
hotel/motel. There is no time for play now!"

"Okay. Are you sure it's time?," I ask.

"If you do not move now the panic will take
you down and you will never get here. Bye."

I go up to the television and turn it off.
They look at me with great concern. I inform
my guest of what needs to be done. They hurry
off to pack up their things. While they do
this, I make my final phone calls. My partner
runs around gathering the rest of our personal
belongings. I'm thankful that they are taking
care of that. I can't do it all.

First I call my friend, Pagen in South Dakota.
Then, I call my friend Jessie and her husband.
I get Tina and her husband to drive from
Georgia to meet us in Mobile. Bambi drives
down from North Carolina to meet us, too. Dawn
flies down from Canada, while Becky flies in
from Michigan. That only leaves Bobbi who is
coming in from Colorado. Bobbi takes a train.

With all the phone calls out of the way, I make
the last call and that is to Melissa. Instead
of having her drive to my house. I have her
bunch meet us at exit # 34 in Mississippi. We
decide that the mall is the best place to meet.
With me in the lead, we head out to the mall.
We left my house about 8:30 am . Had to move.
