Chronology: The Railway Troops.

16 November: the day of the railway and military transportation troops.

  • 16.11.1880: the Decret 2550 / 31.10.1880 established the first two Companii Căi Ferate (as the second companies of Batalion 1 & 2 Geniu).

  • 1.4.1884: Decret 1070 / 27.3.1884 established two new companies and reorganized them as Companii Căi Ferate și Telegrafie with the serial numbers: 1, 5, 9, 13 (always one company for each Batalion Geniu).

  • 16.4.1885: Decret 1276: two new Companii Căi Ferate și Telegrafie added (one supplimentary company to each Batalioane 1 & 2 Geniu), with the serial numbers: 17, 18.

  • ?: two new companies established (with a total of 8) and reorganized again as Companii Căi Ferate.

  • 1886: Decret 2176 / 7.7.1886: established the Comisia Permanentă Mixtă de Transporturi și Comunicații, near MSM, with the mission to provide military transportation and communication.

  • 1.2.1887: Decret 15, 16 / 8.1.1887: the first Batalion Căi Ferate formed (as part of Regimentul 1 Geniu).

  • 1.4.1915: formed Regimentul 1 Căi Ferate.

  • 1916-1918: the railway troops took part to WW1 with 32 officers, 7 NCOs, 899 militarymen.

  • 16.10.1919: Comandamentul Trupelor de Comunicații and Brigada Căi Ferate established.

  • 1.12.1919: formed Regimentul 2 Căi Ferate

  • 1941-23.8.1944: the railway troops took part to the Eastern Campaign with 3 Regimente Căi Ferate and the watch battalions (890 officers, 647 NCOs, 75765 troops).

  • 23.8.1944-9.5.1945: during the Western Campaign, the railway troops rebuilt 2247 km railroads, 73 bridges (with a total of 6420 linear metres), 13970 km railroad communication lines and 66 water supply devices.

  • 10.10.1944: Grupul Operativ al brigăzii de căi ferate was formed as railway operative unit and assigned to the Soviet 2nd Ucrainian Front. It actioned in Hungary, Czechoslovakia and Austria, totalising: 170 km railroads, 35 bridges, 260 km communication lines, 85000 men/day guard of railway objectives. 66 officers, 47 NCOs and 563 troops were awarded orders and medals.
