Don L. Richards of The Woodlands has been nominated by the Libertarian Party as candidate for the Texas District 8 seat in the US House of Representatives. He will oppose incumbent Rep. Kevin Brady (R) in a two-way race in the November 3 election.
The Libertarian Party is America's third largest and fastest growing political party.
The 8th Congressional District includes 79 percent of Austin County, 83 percent of Brazos County, 9 percent of Harris County, 90 percent of Montgomery County, 18 percent of Waller County, and 100 percent of Washington County. The district has 398,951 registered voters.
Mr. Richards, father of three and grandfather of two, holds BA and MA degrees from Columbia University. He is a journalist and author of many articles on the chemical industry and other subjects.
His career appears on a personal web page.
His campaign will be based on the principles stated in the Libertarian Party Platform,
available on the Internet.
The Libertarian Party holds that all individuals have the right to exercise control over their own lives, and have the right to live in whatever manner they choose, so long as they do not forcibly interfere with the equal right of others to live in whatever manner they choose.
In the United States, all political parties other than the Libertarian Party grant to government the right to regulate the lives of individuals and seize the fruits of their labor without their consent.
Libertarians deny the right of any government to do these things, and hold that where governments exist, they must not violate the rights of any individual.
