The Traveller Won't Let it Go, or What Happened to my Life?

by Tony DeCarvalho

The Traveller pulled Overmind into his office after the investor meeting.

"What's your problem?" asked Overmind.

"What's going on?"

"We just had a meeting. I think it went well...."

"You KNOW what I mean."

Overmind stared at Traveller. "I don't think you're ready to hear it."

"Try me."

"Alright. We had a package that we didn't deliver. The customer threatened to sue us. We were ordered to send the package back in time -- we'd never actually DONE that, but that's what we were told to do.

"It took us all night to set the machine up. We placed the package into the teleporter ... Captain Hardware did his magic, and wala! the package was sent."

"And then everything changed."

"Pretty much."

"Who remembers?"

"Who knows? Everybody probably has memories of the old timeline -- it's just that they're all in denial."

The Traveller was stunned by this turn of events ... and he knew what he had to do.

"We have to undo this, Overmind."

"I had a feeling you'd say that."

The Traveller walked out of his luxurious office, and headed towards the teleportation center. His footfalls echoed throughout the cold steel hallway.

"You're going to make things worse."

"No," answered the Traveller. "I'll go back to the past, when that package was not shipped. I'll call you, and let you know to get that package, and you'll take care of the rest."

"I'm afraid it's not that simple. I've done some checking, and the past has been altered as well. Our entire history has been shifted into the new timeline."

"Then ... I'll just have to find the old timeline, and merge it with this one."

"And how are you going to do that?"

"By going back to the dawn of time, of course!"

The Traveller entered the teleporter center, and began sizing up the situation. Dozens of teleporter machines of various shapes and sizes lined the walls of the dome-shaped room. There were three levels of teleporters, as well as a huge teleporter machine in the middle of the room, for extra-large packages.

"Can you pull me back from the past?" asked the Traveller

"I'm not even sure we can get you there! Or if we'll be here to get you!"

"How long did it take for the new timeline to take effect?"

"From the time the package was teleported? About thirty minutes."

"Thirty minutes should be enough time...."

"You're crazy! You can't fix the timeline! You don't know what you're trying to do!"

"I do know. I want my old life back. I won't let it go."
