Hunt the Loyalist

M.O.T. News

October 18, 2002 -- Workers at Good Karma have been heard asking the same
question, over and over: Where is the Loyalist?

"He just disappeared," stated one cashier.

Another cashier noted, "I told him it [working at Good Karma] would drive
him to drinking. I guess it drove him to quitting."

The Loyalist last appeared at Good Karma on Tuesday, when he encountered
several Haitian customers.

"We talked about how to handle them [Haitian customers]," said Miss
Stability, Manager of the Good Karma store where the Loyalist worked. "You
lift the garment, say the price out loud, make sure they understand that the
price, and then ring it up.

"The Haitians want everything for $.99 -- you just have to be tough."

Another manager, who wished to remain anonymous, reported an incident that
may have pushed the Loyalist over the edge.

"The lady wanted two picture frames -- she wanted one discounted because the
glass was chipped, and the other discounted because the backing was slightly
warped. First of all, Miss Stability had already discounted the frames. I
mean, come on! This is Good Karma, not Burdines!

"Anyway, the Loyalist rang her up after she decided to buy the frames, and
then this lady notices another chip, and doesn't want the frames. He had
already given her the change and we have a no refund policy ... I think that
set him off.

"He stormed into the office and said, 'I'm gonna kill this lady.' I went out
there and gave her the refund. She was a very tough Haitian to deal with.
Afterwards, I told him he would have to deal with people like that all the
time. I don't think he liked that.

"The Loyalist's a nice guy, too nice for Good Karma."

The Loyalist is reportedly hiding in his room, refusing to comment and
looking at other employment opportunities.
