In response to: "Proud to Be an
American?"
This nation was founded on religious freedom. There are some of us out here
who do not believe in an afterlife or in a "God." The reason they took school prayer out of the schools is because there are a great number of
people who don't want the majority's religious beliefs pressed upon us.
We have always been a beacon of freedom, but the reason the beacon is fading is easily seen. We were the melting pot of the world for good reason. We
brought all different kinds of people together in one country. When, though, are we supposed to draw the line? The people that came over to our country
in previous centuries at least learned to speak our language. Now for people
like me in South Florida, I have to learn how to speak Spanish to get a good job down here. You want us to open our gates, then people should at least
show respect for those of us here and attempt to learn our language, as our ancestors once did. How can we be truly united when people won't put forth
the effort to unite us in one language, let alone under "God?"
