State Republican Platforms: Environment

These are excerpts from Platforms and Resolutions passed by various state Republican parties this year. They show how far out of the mainstream are the extremists that have taken over the Republican party.

• Texas: We further support the abolition of federal agencies involved in activities not delegated to the federal government under the original intent of the Constitution including... the Environmental Protection Agency. [We oppose] EPA management of Texas' air quality issues.
• Iowa: We support eliminating the federal EPA. We urge that the United States withdraw from the United Nations' Framework Convention on Climate Change including the Kyoto Protocol (a.k.a. Global Climate Control Treaty).
• California: We believe the environment is best protected by extending and enforcing private property rights, rather than by regulation.
• Minnesota: We support the following reforms: ... Opposing ratification of the Kyoto Global Warming Treaty, which places severe restrictions on U.S. businesses with no scientific evidence.
• Nevada: We support serious reform of the Endangered Species Act.
• Texas: We oppose: ... the theory of global warming and the Kyoto agreement.
• Washington: Therefore we oppose: ... The Kyoto Global Warming Treaty.
