Dallas County Democrats
State Republican Platforms: Civil Rights

These are excerpts from Platforms and Resolutions passed by various state Republican parties this year. They show how far out of the mainstream are the extremists that have taken over the Republican party.

Republicans: Undermining Civil Rights:
  • Iowa: We call for an end to affirmative action.
  • Oregon: We advocate the repeal of all state affirmative action statutes.
  • Minnesota: Racial preference has been promoted as a necessary tool to remedy under-representation of minorities and to promote desired diversity in our workforce and school systems. We categorically oppose these motives as contrary to the bedrock principles of equality in which we believe.
  • South Carolina: the South Carolina Republican Party stands for: An end to racial and gender Discrimination and Affirmative Action. It is the view of the South Carolina Republican Party that preferential treatment, quotas, or affirmative action devalue the intelligence and character of those they are intended to assist.
  • California: The CRP will never tolerate discrimination or become a vehicle for those who believe rights are to be apportioned based on litmus tests or predetermined quotas.
  • Iowa: We favor spousal benefits for legal, monogamous, heterosexual marriages only.
  • Oregon: We also oppose laws which grant minority status or the creation of special protection based on one's sexual choices. *Oregon: We believe all forms of homosexuality and the so-called homosexual agenda are morally wrong.
  • Nebraska: We oppose efforts to extend protected class status to anyone based on sexual preference.
  • North Dakota: Be it resolved: That no law shall provide special minority status or privileges for those engaged in the homosexual lifestyle.
  • South Carolina: Morally and pragmatically, the Party considers homosexuality a lifestyle detrimental to the health and well being of individuals and therefore opposes its promotion as simply "an alternate lifestyle."
  • Washington: We oppose the decision of Governor Locke and the Public Employees Benefit Board to provide same sex domestic partner health care benefits to state employees.
  • Wisconsin: Now, therefore, be it resolved that the Republican Party of Wisconsin... Opposes affirmative action and racial quotas in our Wisconsin educational system.
